To get the most benefit from stretching it should be done AFTER your workout. Think of salt water taffy--if you pull on it when its cold, it will break. If it's warm--it can be pulled and stretched. So for your workout, head to a treadmill or a bike for 8-12 minutes. From there, go straight to your weights, then head back to do your cardio.....then stretch. And when I mean stretch, I mean hold each stretch for 20-30 seconds. Most people hold stretches for about 5 seconds. Take your time during your stretch--you deserve it, after weight training and cardio--take at least 5 minutes. Not only will it improve your flexibility, but it will enhance your state of mind.
