Default Hoop dancing?

i was looking at one of the articles on this site and it mentioned hula hoops. i started looking into it and it seems that there's a pretty big community of hoopers out there. it's far from what we remember about hula hoops as kids. one of the sites i went to had a video of hoop dancing. i don't know if i can post the link on here, but if you google hoopnotica you'll find it. it looked like a lot of fun, and a great way to spice up your exercising. it also looks challenging. i was wondering if anyone has tried it and is it as difficult as it looks?

so i finally gave in and got a professional hula hoop! i had a little trouble at first, but now i can keep it rotating around my waist. i ordered a video from hoopgirl.com so i can learn some tricks. i can't wait to get it. besides it being fun and something i can do with my daughter, i can actually feel it working my core!! supposedly people have lost inches from hooping, so i guess we'll find out. i'll let you know if the video is worth buying too. i was kinda sceptical at first cuz i guess i have a short attention span and lose interest in things, but it's kind of addicting. i don't know how long that will last, but so far it's a great addition to my workout.

that is really funny that you mention this... i remember in high school they were testing out this new dance program thing for gym class and we had to come up with dances using different props. my group got stuck with hula hoops but we ended up turning it into a great performance

that's cool! sounds like a fun time. i'm getting hooked on it now. I actually learned some tricks too! oh, here's my review of the hoopgirl video... if you're looking for a workout video, this is not it. this video is more of a tutorial for learning different tricks. She breaks down each trick and then demonstrates them. Before i'd recommend this video, i would recommend watching youtube videos. people go into detail about hooping and different tricks - and it's free! but if you want everything in one place this video is pretty good. my daughter is doing tricks now and she's almost better than me! almost..

I checked out this video (preview) and it's very interesting. I'm thinking about investing in the gear to get started. What kind of music do you use?
Do you use a weighted hoop?

Tmiro, i like hooping to spanish music, dancehall reggae, and reggaeton. My hoop isn't weighted, i think it weighs 1.5 lbs or something like that.

Jpiers, have you tried a professional hoop? they're bigger, have more grip, and weigh more than the $3 hoops you get at Walmart. they're much easier to keep spinning. they're more expensive, but i think they're well worth it! i can even see my waist losing inches!

i actually started making hoops. i haven't sold any outside of my area because i don't know how the shipping process would be. but, if anyone in the Maryland, DC, or VA area wants one, just let me know!

OK, I'm sold. I haven't seen my waist since before the first baby. I've got my kids interested for the summer as well. I'm thinking the Spanish music sounds good. Or maybe disco...
