Inapproriate or I am overreacting?

As you guys know I am doing a 5K in March. Well, my daughters teacher asked me a few weeks ago if she could walk/run with me. I told her sure that would be great. I find out from my kid yesterday that the teacher has told the class she is competing agaisnt me and is having them "guess" which one of us will win! To me this is wrong. It is putting unneeded pressure on me to not let my kid down, and this is putting stress on my kid. She has kids telling her that the teacher is gonna win, etc. Am I just totalling overreacting or do you feel this was wrong for the teacher to do?

What the teacher is doing is completely wrong. You entered in to the 5K for your own personal goals, not to compete against her, or anyone else. If she asked if she could run with you, then that's all she should do. You were generous enough to say she could, but that should not give her the right to turn in into a competition between the two of you. The teacher is on an ego-trip IMO. Her attitude is also causing issues with not only your daughter and her friends, but friction theoretically between yourself and your daughter, because understandably she will want you to win. Don't get drawn in to a race with her, since that will stress you out, and that was not your original intention in the race. When you get to the end, if she says 'I win', just ask 'Sorry, win what?...I was never in a race, I was competing for fun...I thought you knew that'.

I completely agree that this teacher is way out of line and probably has some serious insecurities about her own ability!

No over reaction that I can see. What a twit of a teacher.
