Best Protien Sources

Hey girls!

Well I just got into this getting firm and healthy thing. And a guy mate goes on about protien shakes and pumping iron, ya know the usual guy talk.
But the thing is he spends about $300 on protien shakes a month! Although I want to lower down on fat the problem is that I'm just a student and can't afford that sort of extra money on myself!

So I know that tuna is a excellent protien source! Expecially those small cans that have a "ligther" option and come in flavours. But apart from that the only other thing I'm eating is fruit.

Is there any other sort of high protien foods that are easy and quick to eat such as canned tuna?

Tuna is yummy but it would be nice for a change when I'm on the go.

Chicken and other white fish are all high in protein. I am a working mother so a lot of times I make my lunch the night before so I can have ME time on my lunch break. I grill a lot of chicken and tilapia and pack it in a to go container for the next day. Change up the taste by adding different spices to it. Salt & pepper makes it yummy but I sometimes add garlic and/or other spices to change the taste so I don't get tired of it. Good luck with your tone-up and your school.

Like DeeDee said, chicken and fish are all good. Tuna is also an excellent source of protein like you said.

Nuts are another good one, although they are high in fat, it's all good fat -- fat your body needs.

Your gym buddy was right though, whey protein is the ultimate source of protein for weight loss and muscle building because it has the highest biological value (BV) and it's rich in amino acids

I always take a smoked chicken breast to work as lunch. Its easy, tasty and not so expensive.

Nuts

Nuts are great but they are not a complete protein with all the amino acids, so dont replace chicken /fish/eggs etc with nuts.
Whey isolate is best, Caesin might upset your stomach as it takes longer to digest (some prefer that before they sleep but during the day it can be uncomfortable.)

Eggs, poultry, steak, cottage cheese, fish, milk and of course protein powders are all excellent.

Edamame

I love edamame. They're just a really clean source of protein and fiber. And they're low fat. Kind of a wonder food, I think.

I saw a lot of you say about having chicken for lunch as a protein. What else do you eat with your chicken?

Sides for my chicken

I ususally have steamed veggies. They make those bags of frozen veggies now that you can steam in the bag in the microwave so it's easy. Or even the prepacked veggies that all you have to do is take out desired amount, add a little water, cover and microwave. I usually have a piece of fruit and maybe a yogurt for added sweetness!
