As FitnessGuru states there is absolutely nothing wrong with pasta, wholewheat or otherwise, of course wholewheat is considered more beneficial in terms of nutrients...but it really is a case of taste. I find it works well to mix 50% white pasta and 50% wholewheat since I'm not a fan of a lot of wholewheat. And as already stated it is the quantity that we consume it in, rather than the product itself, that is the problem...one portion of pasta is the equivalent of 20g dry weight/ 45g cooked weight. That's not to say that a person should not have more than one portion, if you go by the food pyramid for example you just allocate the carbohydrate portions into the menu, so you may have two portions of pasta in the one meal depending on calorie requirements, and how active you are. My mother once stated that potato was meant to make you fat, since that was the view in the 70s but I ate tons of potato (quite literally, since my mainstay was the spud) and she remarked that maybe the people that said it should come and take a look since I was a skinny kid. Pasta normally ends up fattening because of the sauce served with it, seldom do you see a tomato based sauce, it's normally cheese or rich creamy sauces that accompany it.
