Cool Quorn

I haven't eatten any quorn for ages, always used to think it was a bit dry and tasteless, but in my never ending hunt for low carb protein I picked up some peppered steaks last night (on special offer)
and they were very tasty
100cals for 12g of protein, low in fat and carbs quite high in fibre but also salt.

Anybody else tried Quorn, don't even know if you can get it in the states?

They have also started doing quorn scotch eggs which are not so low in fat. I've always liked the look of scotch eggs but never had them cos I don't eat meat, so am looking forward to trying them.

Yeah, we've had Quorn sausages and burgers, and really enjoyed them, although I did find out that more than a couple and the fibre starts to show, but not in an overly bad way.

he he he

Apparently StikFigure its made from some kind of fungus but it resembles TVP and most other meat substitute type things. Its been around in the UK for a while (15yrs at a guess). I know a lot of meat eaters who say they prefer the mince cos its low fat and tastes good.

interesting!

....oh how funny. I just googled it and realized I've had this! I thought it was a brand name not the name of a type of protein...hm.
yep. I like the breaded nuggets!

I don't eat meat so use quorn a lot for family meals - the mince is great in a pasta sauce and the beef style pieces are really nice to add to a stir fry.

The advertising makes me laugh now, no mention of it being meat free, just that its low in fat.
