Homemade Yoghurt

I'm thinking about investing in a yoghurt maker, the amount of sugar in the low fat ones i've been getting in crazy.
Does anyone else make their own?

my sister does but it seems like too much work to me.
do you have access to wallaby brand?
what about just eating plain yoghurt?
I guess I'm not being terribly helpful....

My mum used to make yogurt, its quite a lot of effort and from what I remeber you can't really control or know how much fat/sugar is in the end product. ALthough its always gonna be healthier and more wholesome that shop bought it may not be lower sugar/fat

But its always nice to try doing stuff for yourself, you might find you really enjoy it and it becomes like a hobby.
You never know you could develope some amazing low sugar/fat flavour and make your fortune!

If you decide to try it do let us know how you get on.

Used to make our own a few years ago, from what I remember, it was just a case of throwing the ingredients into a yoghurt maker and then leaving it to do its stuff overnight and for 3 days (I think); definitely a different flavour, but getting only 6 small pots from it did seem to make it kinda long-wided process...'cos it would only last 3 days at most, but worth it at the same time. Since I make bread, I tend not to make a lot of other stuff, and college needs a certain amount of my time too, so it's a case of some things just had to give, at least for a while. I know that you can use a starter batch of yoghurt, from a store bought yoghurt, and then use some (1 tablespoon, I think) of the made batch to continue the process.

I sometimes wonder if there is an easier way to make yoghurt, after all rice pudding can be made by placing rice (uncooked) and boiling milk into a thermos, and leaving for several hours to do it itself; never tried it though, as rice pudding is not one of my favourites.

I just eat the plain--way too much sugar. I mix it with one of those powders that has all the anti-oxidants in it for flavor. One is called Premium Red. 10 servings of fruits in one scoop.

If you are wanting to get a little oil into your diet fry a banana with a little olive oil. Mix it with plain yogurt--YUM.

Have you ever tried FAGE Greek Yogurt. Very good.

If you made it you would have to add stuff anyway. May as well start with the plain.

So I got it... it's really easy to use and the yoghurt's beautiful! and so much cheaper ! It just takes 5 hours and if you want it thicker you add skim milk powder. Yum yum yum, I'm sweetening it with fruit and maybe honey or jam if I've done a killer workout! If anyone was thinking about it I'm happy I splurged a little and got it (on sale for $38 yay!) I've found eating yoghurt helps me lose fat quicker, has anyone else found this?

It's the proteins/casein in milk that shrinks fat cells, and studies have shown that people who drink milk have lower fat levels than those that don't
