Smile Getting started?

Hey all, I'm new so if I make any faux pas, please excuse my ignorance. I'm stumblin' around in the dark here, with no idea how to even begin!

So.. I've taken nutrition classes in college and have a basic general knowledge of what's healthy and what's not and why, but my dilemma is that I've never really cooked much (except maybe scrambled eggs/pasta roni/hamburger helper), and I currently work almost full time and attend school more than full time.

I'm not even sure how to get started, eating healthy and eating what is required for exercise to have any real results with my busy schedule. Half the time I find myself forgetting to eat entirely. I don't do fast food very often and tend to stick to a mostly fruit diet with occasional veggies and occasional eggs thrown in.. That plus multivitamins tend to suffice, but while that can sustain me for now, if i start working out regularly, it definitely won't.

Does anyone have any suggestions/advice for the time-starved food-incompetent college student? Thanks! =)

Sandwiches are always a good on-the-go option. I used to get up and make sandwiches to take with me, throw some fruit in the bag etc...because I lived about 10 mins from campus. For breakfast, I'll just blend: banana, yoghurt, water, ground almonds and oats...and then just pour into a very large glass and drink. Peanut butter on toast was always an evening favourite snack. The evening meal was just the normal, potato, veg, and some form of meat.

Snacks of fruit etc in between meals as needed.

Some people use protein shakes, and PWO and pre-WO snacks/shakes...they may be able to advise on that...I just eat foodstuffs, making sure that there is a healthy balance of protein/carb/fat, but I don't obsess over it, I just eat regular meals making certain to avoid heavily creamed sauces etc...whilst adding olive oil to other meals.

Are you a meat eater? If you can find a good deal on organic meat (organic is by far the best!) then that would be good... its quite good to invest ina slow cooker. THen you can put your meals together in the morning (or night before even) and turn it on so it cooks all day and you come home to a nice hot meal. If you make enough you can have it for lunch the next day and freeze some for a future dinner.
Keep breakfasts and lunches nice and light like you're doing and concentrate on dinner. If you're busy then its easier to concentrate on the one meal being more substantial than the rest. For lunch take things like carrot sticks, a boiled egg, a lettuce salad with some cheese, natural unsweetened yoghurt with berries... that kinda thing. Nice light protein with some veggies
