Question Too much protein = fat

I was in class the other day and we were talking about proper nutrition. Our professor said that all the hype is protein right now and according to him and our textbook, too much protein turns into fat. How much is too much?

I'm a subscriber to a few fitness magazines and so far it seems that at least one gram of protein per pound of body weight is ideal. You shouldn't need much more than that. (Ex. If you weigh 140 lbs, 140 grams of protein is recommended)

Missmelinda is spot on, around 1g/1.5g per pound of bodyweight in protein is adequate. Too much of anything can cause weight gain, too many carbs, too much fat, too much protein, since it's all calories at the end of the day. With protein you have to be careful not to go overboard, but generally a balanced diet keeps everything in track anyway, but far too much protein in the system can stress the kidneys. But that would be if you just went overboard on protein alone, or if you already have an underlying kidney problem it will exacerbate it.
