Default Bread?

Some people say bread is great, some people won't go near it. I love bread, anything and anything -- especially white bread.

Should I stay away from it? Is it okay to eat?

Depends on what type.

Basically speaking anything brown is OK. White breads are more processed and contain more sugar than brown breads. This means that eating a lot of white bread can actually give you insulin spikes. These insulin spike make your metabolism work really hard for a short period then it dies off. On the other hand, brown bread is harder to process for the body and your metabolism stays higher for longer. Eating whole foods like brown bread in small amounts throughout the day can help promote a healthy metabolism. Eating large amounts of white breads will have the opposite.

In fact, you're more likely to gain fat eating white bread because your body converts it to energy so quickly and cannot use that energy. This excess energy is stored for later, as fat.

So by all means eat bread, even if you want to lose weight. But keep the portions down

I love eating bread from restaurants, Outback, Olive Garden, etc. YUM! But I think RWF is right, just keep the portions down.

I agree with RWF also. My hygenist also told me that bread is really bad for sticking in between and to your teeth, so make sure to brush and floss really well if you eat bread often.

I can't stand wheat bread, so if I can't eat white bread I try to stay away from breads all together. It's hard though, I love things like biscuits -- they taste so good with honey.

Default Sprouted Grains

How about the sprouted grain breads? Essene type and others. They sound ultra healthy. Does anyone know what's behind their mysterious beneficial qualities?
