New and in need of help!

Good evening.

I am new to the forum and could do with a little advice if at all possible. I am not overweight - but I do have too much fat, have horrid cellulite on my bottom and thighs and need to tone up drastically.

I've never really done much exercise, in the past few months I have tried but nothing has really come of it. I did join a gym but had to pack in my membership as I work full time as a waitress and after being on my feet all day I was too tired to firstly travel to the gym and then workout and get home late.

I bought a cross trainer for home, I have Wii Fit, I also have Fitness Coach on the Wii which I love, a fitness ball and I do yoga. I've been told I should also do weights but I have absolutely no idea what to get or what to do.

I need help!

Hi Cakey

Welcome. I'm fairly new to these forums too but I've been training for most of my adult life. I hope I can help you with this. If you have a Wii Fit already you will hopefully be doing some of the resistance training on it. If you want to step that up a bit just get yourself a set of dumbells (from Argos, they are quite reasonably priced, or maybe someone local is selling on ebay) and use one or two dumbells during the Wii Fit exercises. You could also consider getting one of the fitness bands too.

One of the best books on the market for women's weight training, I think, is Brad Schoenfeld's Sculpt Her Body Perfect. In this book he shows you how to do the same exercise both in the gym and at home. For most of these you will probably only need some dumbells, a fitness band and a gym ball (or a bench is better if you can get one and can store it somewhere when it's not in use). Brad advocates the same approach as most people on these forums, that heavy weight and fewer repetitions are key. Google him and go to his site for Look Great Naked, there's loads of stuff on his site to help out on diet too.

Hopefully this will help, let us know how you get on.

Cheers

Padz

Brad Schoenfeld's book is an excellent source, and one that I learned all my weight training information from.
