Hello - what are your goals?

The answer depends mostly on what you want to acheive.

Welcome

okay. but what about pushups or situps or bicycling then?
it's important to cross train as much as you can so that you don't end up with any over use injuries.
you do need to do more than just walk.
if you are trying to lose weight you especially need to work on building muscle so that your body has a fighting chance to help you lose weight.

You can lose weight and keep in shape by walking, I have a book on walking called "Walk Slim" by Snowdon and Humphreys, see if you can access a copy at a library somewhere. It discusses progressing from gentle walks to power walks etc.

But yes increasing or doing 2 miles twice a day, either will work, but you could also just up the intensity and not worry about how many miles you do, do a set time such as an hour and just go all out. I used to do a walk around the outskirts of the town, before my ankle injury, and it took about 45 minutes to cover around 4 miles which was very hilly...but it is a good workout. And try to incorporate sit ups, push ups, half push ups, lifting buckets (you can put stuff in to gradually increase the weight, books, water, sand, pebbles etc)...there is loads you can do without spending a penny, let your imagination run with it, find an exercise and work out if it can be adapted in some way.

Glad exercise is going well for you.

Ignore the bit below the line, that's not aimed at you, it's my signature about everyone having a brain that they should use; I put it there, after the Great White Workout (also my signature) because on another forum people were asking weird questions like 'how many carrots should I eat?' etc, and I think some of those questions aren't really necessary, because mostly it's common sense.

But the bit below here, is just my signature, not part of my response.

Me and my partner have been walking about 10 miles a week and have seen extraordinary results. From simple toning to muscle building.
