Calves of Doom?

I've got fairly muscular calves (or "cows" as I call them) but they're quite bulky and thick, like a football player's calves. Is there any way to make them leaner or am I doomed? I heard that wearing heels can make the muscle leaner, or is that just a myth?

And this may sound stupid, but can anyone tell me how I can measure how muscular my calves actually are? I mean, when I flex my foot it's solid, but normally there's a bit of meat... but I don't have that defined shape people with sculpted calves have.

Wearing high heels won't work, all it will do is bunch your calf muscle up even more and when the shoes are taken off you may notice difficulties in straightening the calf muscle fully because it has been kept at a set angle/position for so long. A lot of people who wear heels experience problems with their calf muscles shortening.

You can do more cardio, running, walking these will encourage more slow twitch muscle fibres which are not as bulky as fast twitch which are the fibres used in muscle building. Yoga, Pilates etc will help because they elongate muscles more which means they'll look slimmer, but most of these things take about 8 weeks before really dramatic differences are seen, so bear with them.

Not entirely sure what you mean about working out how muscular your calves are; if you mean how much of it is muscle, I have no idea how to work that out, merely looking at the diamond shape that forms when you flex it will give you some idea, but there is also a muscle beneath that one....the name of which escapes me at the moment...so that has to be taken into account as well, even though you can't really see it.

if you calves are muscular then i think you are out of luck..thats the way ur muscles are...dense muscle.
but if you do have a few pounds to shed than some cardio will probably help a bit. though dont count on it.
