Calf muscle pain

This is a weird one but I'm hoping someone can help.

I have had this for around 6 weeks. On waking each morning I walk to the bathroom, in doing this my calves are so stiff and heavy I can barely walk, it does improve within 30mins or do but the pain stays with me constantly. Its not pain exactly it feels like my calf muscles have 1oo weight lead weights attached to them/stiffness.

I've not taken up any new or extra exercise for months, average 4/5 sessions at the gym and a weekly hike of around 8 miles.

Really hoping someone can help. I've had my mattress for three years so its not that (I'm assuming if it was I would have back pain and would disappear quite early in the day)

My first sugestion is to get a physio to take a look at it.

where in the calf muscle is the pain ? what type of pain is it ? are you stretching both calf muscles (Gastrocnemius and Soleus) ?

do you also sometimes have pain in the heel or the bottom of the foot ?

what are your shoes like ?
what is your diet like for potassium ?

there are so many variables it is realy hard to help over the internet.

It feels like the type of pain you get if you have a heavy session at the gym and don't do any stretching exercises. I always spend at least 20mins stretching after my gym sessions and also stretch after a long walk. I stopped doing any exercise for 4 or 5 days to see if it improved and it didn't.

I have taken a potassium supplement for a couple of weeks but I don't think its that because I've had issues with this before in the form of night cramps.

I'm sorry to be a bit naive but I wasn't aware there were 2 calf muscles...... apart from one on each leg!

I appreciate its tricky over the internet, I just thought someone might have experienced something similar, thanks for your help.

In addition to what Trusylver has suggested, it could also be caused by a draught in the night. A few years ago, I was having bad cramps in both calves, only to realise that it was cold air getting under the sheets...it's something to consider, especially if it only occurs at night whilst asleep.
