Lost 2lbs this past week, although I don't know how, with the amount of food I was continually consuming...so very glad I skipped Saturday's workout, since I obviously wasn't consuming enough to power it...although 2lbs loss is fine, as long as it never exceeds that I'll be happy.
I wasn't overly impressed with Friday's weight routine, so it will be altered back to what it was prior to changing it...I'm going to increase the weight load again, and do less reps; I didn't feel like I got anything from the 40% with higher rep range; dissapointed really.
New tables have been prepared ready for next week, with a small increase of 2 secs on the CO2 table holds, and an increase of 8 secs on the O2 table final hold; which doesn't sound a lot, but it is.
Hopefully, next week's routines will now be solidly set, after spending what seems like several months trying to get them correct...I think I finally cracked it.

Just as I got my training routine cracked, along comes the 'manhole cover' time...oh well. Anyway, I've decided to go with the female cycle and so I will be taking 1 week off in every 4, which at least means I won't be overtraining. Actually I read that Triatheletes do this when leading up to competition periods anyway, so maybe it's not such a bad thing...to do mini-cylces as they term it.
However, in order to take some advantage of the time as well, I'm going to up the apnea holds, as in the cycles that I do, not the hold-times. So, later I'm going to replace my 1 hour exercise window with CO2 holds, and I missed this morning, 'cos I was quite frankly 'knackered'...tomorrow should start with the morning table and then I can do the same table in the evening. Hopefully, the extra practice will be beneficial, and not over-exerting.
Last week, during my apnea cardio, I realised that I had gone off at almost a normal pace, and it can't be done that way for 1 hour holding your breath for 30 minutes of the time...so, next week, when it comes around again, I will have to be patient and not go 'hell for leather' in to the work out. Stepping is harder when holding the breath, than walking is, since I manage to walk the corridor at college, but can only do about 6 (24) foot movements at most when stepping, under the same circumstances...but it's all good fun

You never know how good you might feel going back to it after a rest week.
Yeah, I enjoy my weeks off, it's just the planning of them, and I figure that our monthly cycle can get in the way enough when there isn't a planned break, so why not consider using it as the break, that way it can't interrupt a proper exercise cycle, as such; but I think some people drive themselves too hard and worry about taking a break from training.
Apnea tables going well...missed yesterday's, so I did it tonight, not really necessary, but it was fun, and then I went on to 10 cycles of 15 sec ventilation and 45 sec hold....and wasn't that fun after doing 16 minutes already

Hey welldone.
Think I'm gonna have to do some research into this Apnea cycling.
This morning's apnea table went well, although I had diaphragmatic contractions on the first couple of holds, and then it settled down.
In case you're wondering what apnea is Lazylifter; it's breath holding, and I do the holding whilst stepping, walking, climbing stairs, or just sat still, as in the post above; where I was sat still, breathe for 15 seconds, hold breath for 45 seconds...and continue that cycle for 10 reps. I'm prepping to go swim with some dolphins. The following gives some freedive footage

To think I start spluttering as soon as my head goes under.
Are there any general health/fitness benefits to apnea training?
Supose anything that increase lung capacity is good, right.
Strangely, they don't increase lung capacity as such; what they do is develop the body's ability to deal with a build up of CO2 etc, by conserving as much O2 as possible through being relaxed etc, which is why CO2 tables are done...when CO2 is high in the system which is when it's yelling at you to breathe, that's when the contractions begin, and some tolerate as much as 5 minutes or more of contractions; myself I can tolerate 30 seconds of them, then I give in And strangely freedivers can only tolerate the same amount of CO2 build-up as everyone else, as scientific tests have shown, but they adapt to ensure they conserve their O2 for longer than most others can...which really is the difference.
Apnea training also allows the body to adapt to lactic acid tolerance, when training is done dynamically...as in swimming, walking, holding breath. And, I guess, a double bonus is the fact that the EPOC burns loads of calories; on a dive day it can be in the range of 20 cals a minute, which is 1200 cals an hour...but that's taking the temperature of the sea etc in to account.
I have to point out that it is also dangerous, and blackout do occur when people push themselves to the limit, mostly intermediate/advanced practitioners, due to beginners not really holding the breath beyond their comfort zone.
Having said all that, apnea table went well again this morning, although I did endure more contractions than ever, which is cool...I think, if Saturday goes well, I should break my 1:40 seconds...but it will depend on the day

Apnea went well again this morning, and I was more relaxed and foccussed, after reading up a bit further on the subject yesterday and as a result I had less contractions to deal with; I even managed to make it to 1:21 on the CO2 table, which is 30 seconds beyond my present hold time for that particular practice table...
