The pull up bar sounds good I could do with one of them. Was it expensive?

Go for it with you work outs, look forward to hearing how it goes.

it was only $30 USD

I was shopping around on line for adjustable weight dumbbells and am surprised at the advances in designs since last I was in the market ....oh...20 years ago. Sleek! it's not just a bar with a bunch of variably sized plates to hold on with a spring device!! But am finding myself waiting to see if i can commit to the new plan before I dump a bunch of cash on fancy things.
It's early in the day yet over here...we'll see how it goes
The hardest part of this new schedule is to avoid the impulse to get drawn into various home or work projects which can easily spill into workout time if I don't watch it. ....more later today....

Alright. I did it. made it to the pool and very happy to have changed from my gym pool to the city pool. The new UV method cuts down on chlorine fumes massively which feels much much better - not to have to smell like chlorine for a day and a half after a swim - not to mention the hair loss

When I got home I just did a little bit of ab work. inflated my exercise ball.
stretched (a teenie bit)

I swam for 1/2 hour and although my pace was slow it felt very good - not exhausting and my breath was plentiful.

next workout day will be Wed.

Good to hear things progressing well on the home workout front. Sometimes I think the fancy equipment really de-motivates a person, so it's better to stick with the rugged stuff that just screams 'workout' at you; as long as the equipment is safe that is. Have you worked out a weights routine, or are you following one that's already around?

Do a pull-up for me

Yes, but those fancy new things look so NICE!
ah but I have to admit I found the old dumbbell bars in the shed out back and all I really need is a few discs to put on them....sigh....not as pretty but much cheaper.

When I reviewed my old gym workout I noticed that I can do pretty much everything that I used to do but now at home with just a few tweaks here and there. So, I'll just keep with that routine.

as it turns out my new schedule realistically only leaves room for two workouts a week although I'd planned on three. Practice is always a bit different than theory. It's the best I can do without wearing myself out balancing everything right now (which I think is why I stopped working out regularly in November - 3-4 times a week just wasn't sustainable for me). I'm struggling with being kind to myself about paring back, so that I don't just give up. Most of me thinks two times a week is useless so why even bother? But it is better than nothing at all. I'm hoping that as I get into it, several months down the road I'll feel more able to prioritize another day of the week. I do afterall walk at least an hour a day because of the dogs and then I'm on my feet most of the rest of the day for work...
so, next workout day: tomorrow afternoon. swimming plus weights and I'll have to rethink the accompanying strength workout since I'd better do a full body routine instead of rotating regions if I'm just doing it twice a week...

If it's any help, I follow a full-body routine, but do it 3 days a week with success, as in no overtraining issues (plus, it's how I got the muscles that I have at present ), and it works well because if I need to skip a day, for whatever reason, I still have 2 days left and haven't excluded any body part. Some weeks, I only manage to get 1 session in, but it keeps the body conditioned which is more important to me. The 1 hour cardio that you do every day, walking the dogs, is probably more exercise than most people ever get even when doing exercise What about taking the dog for a jog, or some fartlek work, if you're okay with jogging that is.

phew! glad I found out what the heck fartlek is using google. It sounds just rude and disgusting
I don't actually enjoy walking or running but can't avoid the walking and will run from time to time for the same reasons (dogs) since apparently short humans are generally too slow to keep up with long legged dog pace.
Thanks for the suggestion though. I'll look further into FARTLEK (snicker) and see if that might spruce up my daily walks...

I did make it to the pool today - hooray. and I actually hit quite a nice stride in the pool after about 15 min. Was moving in the water for 25 min. today. Now I'm going to buckle down and prove to myself that I can still get my work done despite the time I made to exercise today. It'll be a late Friday night though...

It looks like I'm going to get simple plates for my dumbbells since it seems more cost effective. I can get 70 lbs of weights for the same price I'd pay to buy two adjustable fancy 12.5 lbs dumbbells, so that seems like a no brainer.

Haven't yet added the resistance workout. Plan to in a few weeks once I get the swing of the schedule.

stressed out today

missed the pool today. freaking out a bit about a lull in the business. spent the day cooking for the week - making loafs: soy bean, almonds and celery and lentil/nut roast.

going to go tug on the weeds in the yard next. that might fix me up.

now I'm going to afix some mirrors in my newly dedicated workout room
