Smile Stik's Health Marathon

well, last week consisted of that one yoga class and a bit of a tanning bed burn on my butt and back (ouch..and itchy!).
didn't manage the swim and the second yoga class as intended but I did enjoy the 4 days of sore muscles from that one class...!
planning to repeat that yoga class tomorrow and we'll see how this week goes.
the sun has made a reappearance today for the first time in literally months - which helps a ton.
feeling mostly positive today.
still a bit distracted by year end tax and bookkeeping crap, so until that clears up I'll keep going easy on myself. I feel my energy improving day by day as I get more sleep and eat less starch and sugar.

HA!

I did it! After about 1/2 hour spent staring myself down in the bathroom mirror....teetering on the verge of cashing it in and giving in to the list of to-dos today. I jammed in my contact lenses, packed the bag, told myself all I have to do is get in the water splash splash splash and come home.....
well, I forgot how warm and tingling the cold pool water feels on my cold appendages in this wintry weather - delicious!
I felt like I hadn't really lost that much endurance or strength which is encouraging. I was in a lane with a slower swimmer which is always good for the ego

I didn't monitor how many laps of what I did - just followed my nose, concentrated on how everything felt and my breathing and when I looked up it had been 20 min. so I just did a few more and all told swam 1/2 hour....then had a luscious few minutes in the hot tub stretching. ahhhh.

had some left over pizza (Kashi's mushroom spinach thin crust - yummy)
now I'll walk one of the dogs for an hour.
THEN I'll be ready to tackle the to-dos and all will be well.

I did however weigh in at 108 lbs... so my 3 months of being a sloth has take it's toll afterall....I'll see what I can do about some meal planning and grocery shopping to make sure I eat enough this week

well, I'm off to Hawaii tomorrow. This is what I started getting serious at the gym for over a year ago. The beach body I know I can have isn't exactly where I'm at now but I'm definitely more comfortable with my body now.
It's been 3 months of very infrequent workouts. When I get back it'll be back at it in earnest. My downfall was overworking myself in November and December - not enough sleep and taking my focus off of my food prep and groceries. I also got out of my supplement routine which is probably the first domino that fell come to think of it...
I'll be resting and recharging a bit for 5 days.
No excuses after that.
My next goal will be to be in the best (hottest and healthiest) shape of my life - literally - by the time I turn 40. No reason not to be.
see y'all in a bit.

You lucky thing Don't forget to take some photos so that we can see the sun. I'm pretty much on track with you concerning the intermittent workouts, oddly during the same time frame, and have just got back into full swing, so when you get back you should be okay...nice and refreshed and ready to rock 'n' roll in the gym. Have a great holiday.

Okay.
I'm making friends with my workout schedule again.
I'm getting myself used to getting up early and going to bed early again.
I'm reviewing recipes and preparing a grocery list.
By Sunday I should be ready to jump into it again.
I've been discovering all sorts of great varieties of tempeh which has been surprisingly satisfying and not nearly as gas producing as regular tofu and other protein. Since tempeh is fermented without extreme heat seems to make it much more digestible.
I'm planning to make and freeze several legume and nut loafs on Sunday and am thinking about what Wolfy once suggested: to prep boiled eggs for the week and stick em in the fridge for easy access.
I'm getting there, I'm getting there.
...and then the clocks will get re-set and I'll be screwed...
naw. hopefully not.

oo. and I think I'll need to shop for some new workout clothes to make me feel cool in the gym...

I'm quitting my gym membership. The plan is to try out the home workout thing plus swimming at the city pool that is now UV filtered so as to cut down on Chlorine off gassing which is most lovely.
we'll see how that goes. I'm open to advice from the home workout crew
I think I'll be running and doing pull ups, chin ups, pushups ab work and stuff like that. we'll see how long that feels like enough.

Lazylifter is on a distinguished road
There is a lot to be said for working out at home.
Being able to choose the music and turn it up loud...or have no music at all.

Good luck

Home workout, yay!

What sort of equipment do you have to work with? I reckon you're already smart enough to be able to put a routine together, from using all the routines already around, and adapting them. A couple of adjustable dumbbells are a good idea, at minimum; a bench/aerobics ball is helpful for presses etc. The idea of pull-ups etc is excellent.

I find that 3 days weights, and 3 days cardio works well for me...doing a whole-body routine 3 times a week, although a conditioning routine mostly, allows me to miss a day, and still not miss out, so it makes it very flexible...and the cardio, well that's really adaptable.

Swimming...apnea Just kidding, dynamic apnea is a great swimming workout, apparently...I have to remain dry land at the moment

Hope the workout works out.

daylight savings time.
no more excuses.
I bought this chin up / pull up bar today that can be placed on any door frame without afixing it there permanently and although its a gimmicky "as seen on tv" thing it seems quite nice! and I'll be able to use it for push ups too.
today I'll be assembling my swim bag and unearthing the bicycle....I wonder if I still have that exercise ball somewhere...must inflate that too.
tomorrow is day 1 (again)
