Default Weight lifting routines?

Happy new year, all! Maybe we'll get some new members with all those resolutions to lose weight and get fit?

Thanks to holiday gift cards and a big sale, I got a brand new weight bench kit for a grand total of $12 out of my pocket. The bargain shopper AND the weight lifter in me are happy I can now do a bunch of exercises that I couldn't do before, or that I had to improvise with dumbbells and a chair.

What are your favorite weight workouts? I generally do a full-body workout everytime, getting in at least two exercises per major muscle group. I get bored working on just legs, just arms/back, or just abs on a particular day.

Anyway, I'd love to hear what you're all doing. What are your favorite weight exercises/routines?

12 bucks for a new bench set, nice!!!

Good to see you're up for some weight training...as I always say here, everyone should be doing it!!

Post up a pic of your weight bench (you should be able to find one from the manufacturers site) so I can check out what you got.

Here are a few good workout routines.

Post up a pic of what equipment you have and if one of the workout routines on that link doesn't work for you I'll whip one up for you!

Here's a link. It's nothing too fancy, but for 12 bucks I'll take it! The bar itself only weighs between 5-10lbs, so it's definitely not standard. The 80 lbs of plates that came with it only come in 10 and 15 pounders. I need to grab some 5s and 2.5s so I can work on inching up the resistance. The chest fly...I dunno, seems too wide for a female of my size. But the leg roller works pretty well and the preacher curl is great, too.

Looks like a pretty decent bench to me.

With the flys, I don't like that type either. I'd just use the bench and do dumbbell flys.

Yeah the bar is pretty standard on that type of setup, no big deal for women because you wouldn't be be lifting too much weight. There is a nice selection of exercises you can do with your setup and a set of dumbbells -- nice! And not bad for 12 bucks!

Yeah, it's a nice bench you got there. Anyway, my favourite weight lifting is triceps exercise using dumbbells, since toned triceps and abs are my goals in 2008.

I read this a few days ago and went to the website above. It is GREAT! I have always had a hard time coming up with a routine on my own. With this site, I didn't have to. I had heard of Doug Lawrenson before so when I saw his name after selecting Toning as my objective, I was excited. He created a routine for women and after the last couple of days I can honestly say he's kicking my butt! Thanks for the tip!

i mix up my routine with clean and presses, dumbell swings and one arm snatches. they work the whole body and get the heart pumping.

Definitely look at sears, they have tons of good weight lifting equipment for cheap.

Good for exercising, too

Cleans/presses are really good because they work so many muscle groups at once and burn a huge amount of calories
