in the summer, we buy a pool pass for the community pool, which is really really nice. 3 slides, and a lazy river!!!!! the pool is the best thing about living here....
That sounds amazing I'm a little green
I went to centre parcs in January and I completely loved it. All these other grown women were there saying to their kids "no mummy doesn't want to go down the rapids". I'm throwing myself down there shouting weeeeeeeee.

Much as I would have loved to do that kind of thing too, I'm now wary because of a youtube vidoe about one that collapsed, killing one person and putting others in hospital; however, I once rode some very small white water rapids (if they can be called that) when I was in Germany, and it was great

the slides are color-coded... the blue slide is in the main pool, and is for singles... the red slide has innertubes, and you can get a double with a friend... i usually wind up going with my youngest. the yellow is the "racing" slide. you'll get a wedgie on that one!!!

these are the plans

Hi, I go to a chain gym that includes family membership. It has a pool, sauna, steam room etc but I never use that. The gym is good for free weight training and there are plenty of cardio machines. I do find though that I have to fight for mirror space in the meat section! These boys do love to look at themselves! They might look a little better if they concentrated more on their training technique!

I've got a home setup in my garage which is great and I'm adding to it bit by bit. I've only been training for four months so it's made up of stuff I've inherited or got cheap.
Fit ball - I do crunches and hip raises
EZ bar - 7kg with no weight and couple of small plates
Dumbbells - pairs - 1kg, 2kg, 3kg, 4kg, 5kg
Treadmill and a floor mat.
I just got an incline/decline bench last week so I'm starting to use that. Thats all for now - tomorrow I'm going to get a few more weight plates for the EZ barbell so I can increase my bent over rows.
About a month ago I rigged up a mirror on the wall so it's shaping up as a great space.

Sounds good Puffin, you must have a very tidy garage. I'd have to make several journeys to the tip before I could do crunches in my garage

Wow thats fantastic, swim the Channel all the way from Ohio, now that would take some doing (sorry for the British humour LOL)

I have an elliptical trainer, several DVDs, yoga mat, skipping rope and weights at home....................

...................all gathering lots of dust hence joined the gym nearest to home three weeks ago, its not to big not to small and only been open six months so its still really quiet, I can go in most days around 4.30pm and have to turn the lights on in the ladies changing rooms, it doesn't have a pool which is a shame but it is convenient which is most important, I have ot walk past it from work to get home so its pretty much unavoidable - not that I've tried avoiding it yet.

Its my fifth gym in the last ten years but this time I'm determined to stick it out.

We have a home gym, which I prefer hands down. DH and I have dedicated our living room to the gym plus playspace for my 3 year old (that's right, folks, we don't have a sofa or coffee table or anything! I like it that way!).

We have:
- Bench with barbell, lat bar, curl pad, and leg curl and leg extension machine
- Adjustable dumbbells
- Only a basic set of plates so far, but we're expanding it over time
- A really nice elliptical trainer that we inherited from the office
- Mat (for situps and stuff)
- A Red Exerciser

I think it's everything we need - as long as we also do walks/runs (I walk, DH runs) or something to vary the cardio occasionally.

Primal Gym

I go to a cool gym in Manchester called Primal Fitness.

They have no sauna's, plasma tvs or mirrors. They don't even have treadmills or steppers, just loads of free weights and kettlebells.

Its not a body builder gym though, the atmosphere is really friendly and the focus is on health and fitness.

I find I get the most benefit out of the classes, you work out with kettlebells, but also get to flip tractor tyres and hit stuff with sledgehammers (I kid you not!).

I've made loads of friends since I've joined as everyone is like minded and jsut wants to get on with it. The trainers are great, really friendly and always happy to spend time with you helping with technique and giving nutrition advice.

Anyone in the Manchester area that wants to get fit should defo check it out.
