Weight Vests

What do you think of these? I have heard them advertised for boosting Cardio workouts. Since I'm 20 lbs lighter than I was a few years ago it seems it would put me back where I was when doing exercises that use your own body weight. Kim

Actually, I think they're an excellent idea, I've heard that running whilst wearing one is not a good idea due to joint impact, and some are not designed to be worn whilst running etc. But, I do a similar thing concerning the weight, since I am lighter than I was, I hold a weight (5kg/11 lbs) in each hand for a while, when I fancy doing so, just to bump up the amount of weight I am carrying again, in order to raise the intensity of the exercise, but holding a weight can take it out on the elbows, so a vest/rucksack (balanced well) would work wonders; of course, in order to carry the extra weight you may have to sacrifice speed, but it's a trade off, which gives variety to exercise too.

I agree

using a vest is a great idea there are a lot of exercises where using a vest is a good option. I use one for increasing cardio intensity on the stairmaster and the treadmill but also for strength exercises which are awkward to hold weight eg. pushups.

I think they are a good idea and I will invest in one myself soon! I'll let you know how I like mine once I get it, probably not until summer.
