Hi Becca.
I used to do a lot of cardio thinking that would help me lose weight. It does to start with but then I found I plateau'd and began to lose interest. I then found a mentor who is a bodybuilder and introduced me to weights. Since then I have managed to keep the weight off (using a sensible diet of course) by weight training 3 days a week and doing cardio on 2 days.
As a woman you won't bulk up but will be much more aware of your shape and definition. Start out by defining a complete body workout with weights and split that over as many days as you can afford to workout. determine your set program, 4 sets of 8 reps is often a good place to start, and choose a weight that results in you completing 6 reps successfully and almost failing on the last 2 reps. When you can do all 8 reps with that weight successfully, move up a kilo and repeat.
I found this to be successful. I'm much happier with my shape now and having lots of nice healthy muscle helps with keeping the weight down.
Are you intending to do weights at a gym or at home?
