Staying positive thru injury

Hey folks,
I'm injured at the moment and haven't trained in three weeks - kinda going a wee bit CRAZY now....
I ride a motorbike and I 'dropped' it a few weekends back. By sheer reflex action, with no time to 'think' about what I was doing, I grabbed hold of it as it fell away from me and wrenched my neck/shoulder/back and got a small tear in my bicep. I'm bummed out bigtime. Anyway, long story short, I'm having physio and it's going as well as it can.

The physical side of injury is uncomfortable/painful but the mental side is what is getting to me.

Any advice from those who've had a forced lay-off due to injury, or who continue to train with limitations is much appreciated.

Particularly:
1. how do you stay positive? I feel like my hard work has been lost.
2. do you/did you lay off completely? I could 'maybe' do some treadmill walking next week but not sure if this will push it.
3. did you adjust your diet - I'm conscious of energy in/energy out and I'm not as active as I have been.
4. I feel like, and have obviously lost momentum from my regular routine. Will I get that back or will I just slide into being a couch potato again. How did you/do you ensure you'll keep going?

Not easy questions, I know. Thanks folks,

That's a big bummer. Sorry to hear about it. How's your bike?

Don't lose heart! Your hard work will make this recovery a lot faster than if you hadn't been working out. Make sure you're seeing some results from your physio even if it's only a few minutes, hours or hopefully days of improvement / relief after your treatments and then focus on that because you'll be able to see that your body IS improving. If you're not getting any such results even small ones, then you need to move on to a different form of therapy. There's always, different physio approaches that vary from therapist to therapist, or massage or acupuncture or chiropractic. so, remember there are all sorts of resources available to help you on this road of recovery.

Be nice to yourself and don't expect too much too quickly. Tissues need time to heal. I think your idea about working out with cardio while you're waiting for your injuries to heal is a good one. Whatever you can do without aggravating your injury is great. Maybe your physio has more specific ideas about what is safe for you to do...?

Hang in there.

thanks stikfigure - I'm getting some deep tissue massage now too which seems to be working. I'm up for a walk on the treadmill tomorrow, physio again thursday, walk friday and massage saturday. I'm worried about my diet though - I wasn't overloading on calories but I'm eating the same and not training the same. I'm minus the protein shakes but hoping I don't lose tone/add flab. Frustrating. Thanks for your comments, much appreciated.
