Whenever you have to lift a weight off the ground using the legs it mimics an execise called thd deadlift. The deadlift comes in many forms, the one specific to task is called a bent knee deadlift. The bent knee deadlift heavily recruits the muscles of the posterior chain: namely the back, butt and hamstrings.

For someone looking to get stronger in deadlifting first thing is learn the technique. There are many instructionals online but the best way to learn is to visit a powerlifting or olympic lifting club. It may sound intimidating but these ppl are the best at lifting things of the ground without getting HURT. technique is very important in the deadlift one wrong move and its instant back pain. A less intimidating approach may be to join a Crossfit gym in your city, they offer instructionals on some of those lifts and their class may be just what you need to get the strength for work.

Hope that helps
