Hello!

Hello Ladies,

I am glad I found this forum and excited to become a part of it! Here is where I am at:

I work from home, so spend a lot of the day sitting at my computer. I have noticed that over the last 5 years or so (I am now in my early 40's) I have gained 5-7 pounds around the mid-section. I take a yoga class twice per week and walk my dog a few times per week also. I have never done any structured weight training, mostly due to low back problems. (Yoga is great for that, by the way.) Jogging is not my thing either. I do swim laps in the spring/summer.

I would like to lose those stubborn 5-7 pounds that have crept up on me, which may not sound like a lot to some people but I am only 5"1", so believe me, those pounds are noticeable!!

I have been looking into carb cycling, but not sure about that. Does anyone have any ideas? My eating has never really been out of control and my weight doesn't yo-yo. Any ideas on how to fend off the gradual weight gain of middle age?

Susan

Hi Susan!

The basics of losing weight are simple, you have to burn more calories than you take in on a daily basis over an extended period.

So here's what you have to do:

Work out how many calories you're consuming (count them)

And work out how many calories you're burning (use this tool)

Once you work those figures out you have 2 options. Decrease the amount of food you consume, or increase exercise to burn more calories. Better still, a bit of both would be ideal. Try to aim for about 500 calories per day deficiency.

Any questions post them up..
