Yes, it's fine to exercise during the menstrual period. Sometimes exercise also helps to ease any stomach cramps experienced at that time.

It is advised that people don't do upside down yoga postures, due to te fact that they are held for a duration of time, this is mostly so that the blood flow which is trying to get out of the body is not held within it...although it may not cause a problem, it is still not advised...but otherwise, it's okay to do exercise at that time of the month.

Some women will miss the first couple of days, when the flow is heaviest, mostly because they just don't want to face exercise...and this is something I've done from time to time, but it's not a problem. If you do decide to miss a session or two, it's okay, just take it easier on those days and relax.

Well, I find it very difficult to exercise, especially my squats. And I also get occasional dizzee spells or blackouts. I do drink enough water though. Any idea why this happened?

The 'Sculpting Her Body Perfect' book suggests that hormonal fluctuations at that time can make a woman suffer a variety of symptoms, with prolonged exercise causing diziness and nausea amongst other things. So, I wouldn't worry too much, get a doctor to check it out if it concerns you, but apart from that just ease up on the exercise at that time...you could go for a long walk or do something less demanding on the body at those times, just for a couple of days...and see if that works.

I found that taking a good walk or very light jog actually helps a lot with cramping.

LOL This thread just reminded me of the "helpful gentleman" who approached me in the gym when I was doing cable kickbacks for my glutes. There I am on my elbows and knees, working the tush, when the guy walks up and out of the blue says:

"Gosh, I hope you aren't menstruating while you're doing that. Women shouldn't do inverted exercises while menstruating."

As it turns out, he was right, but at the time I just felt weird and went home.

for many women we need to be a little more aware during the time between ovulation and bleeding because of how the ligaments will lose tone a touch during that time. This time frame varies for everyone a bit but it's usually any time during the two weeks before we bleed (day 14 to day 28). more sprains and strains have been shown to occur during that time and if we have a vulnerability or old injury - it's more likely to complain or give out during that time frame if we're not careful or just pushing ourself.
...all the more reason to gain strength and stability long term - and that'll be less likely to get the better of us!

wouldn't mind getting to 125 lb. if it's healthy muscle!
