How much protein?

Hi I'm new here and I've recently come across a lot of information about protein supplements and the amount of protein I should be having a day..
I want to lose about 8-10kg and I've started taking a protein supplement to help with weight loss and lean muscle repair/growth.
I've read somewhere that for fat loss you should be consuming 1g of protein per pound of your bodyweight. is anyone following this rule?
For ladies who are taking protein supplements, how many shakes are you having a day?
Thanks for ur help
Vish

I think anyone who is serious about building muscle mass this guideline is a good one to follow. It definitely takes some work to calculate and make sure that you get the right amount of protein etc. each day. When I''m working out regularly I'll have a whey shake 1-2 times a day. Right now I"m trying not to eat as much animal protein so it's a little harder to get as much as I need. Remember to drink a lot of water when you add protein shakes.

wouldn't mind getting to 125 lb. if it's healthy muscle!

I know what you mean Vish.
I have to say if I followed that rule i'd be eatting 180g of protein a day.
Realistically I usually manage more like half that and I'm still building muscle.

I try not to have more than one shake a day cos I find they don't agree with me if I have too many. But if you've got a hardier stomach than me don't see why two or even three would be a bad thing. Must drink lots of water though as Stikfigure said, or it puts too much strain on your kidneys.

and don't forget the most important time to have a shake is post work out!

Yeh I normally have one post workout, but was thinking as I normally have porridge or granola for breakfast, I should have one before I go to work as well...as I don't eat until I get to work and that's normally a couple of hours after I wake up..

Well I also read somewhere else that if you want to lose weight then you should be having 1.2-1.5g of protein per kg of body weight, which seems a bit more realistic to me....but it still quite a lot! All this conflicting advice is very confusing i tell u!

I try and drink about 2-3L of water a day..thats enought isnt it? Or should I be having more? :s

Sounds like your doing better than me with the water anyway!
A shake as soon as you get up is suposed to be good, I would throw in a little good fat and fruit as well if it were me.
