Calorie intake-CONFUSED!

Ok so I always thought that I should lower my calorie intake and increase activity to increase weight loss. I'm currently eating between 1500 and 1800kcal a day. I know the recommended guideline for calorie intake for women is 2000.
I read somewhere that I should be using BMR to calculate the amount of calories I need to be consuming a day. It says 2100 kcal. I honestly don't think I'd be able to eat that much in day!
Does anyone use this method to calculate how many calories you should be consuing?

I can't remember how I calculated my intake, because it was some time ago, but I used a book-based calculation at the time. It's not too difficult to add te calories in and not eat a 'bulk' of food, you just need to select some of the more calories dense foods, that will help; so, olive oil on foods will easily increase your intake by 300 cals (2 tablespoons, spread over two meals, a sandwich and an evening meal etc), then there are nuts 100g = 600 calories. And both of these are good fats which will help your body burn the fat off, strange but true, but I realise you probably already know that as well, it's just that some people are not aware that we need fat in order to burn fat. But, above has added another 900 cals to your daily meals with very little extra bulk, I hope that has been of help.

Hi there angelvish,
Here`s something I`ve been using for a while to calculate calories consumed. It`s a very easy-to-use online application and it`s called Qwave. It provides an exact estimation of the total daily energy consumption. You`ll be able to calculate calories consumed and track details on over 70 nutrients. You can also create a set of meal templates for your most common meals so you can keep an eye on your calorie and fat intake. You can read more on qwave.com
Hope you`ll find it helpful.
All best

calorie calculator

another thing to try is the daily plate feature on livestrong.com. it's free. it takes in your age, height weight, and activity level, and gives you an estimate of how much you need for what you want (gain, maintain, or lose).

It really does depend on how accurately your counting the calories. I would say I'm on a calorie controlled diet but I'm really only counting in hundreds!
Also don't forget cheat days, at least one day every other week should be high calories it helps with weight loss, honestly

If you are eatting 1500 or less a day, excercising and not losing weight (albeit it might be happening slowly) that surgests to me some hidden cals are getting in there somewhere.
