Oh that's just a title that I give to my own workout, I put it together after reading the book 'Sculpting her Body Perfect' by Brad Schoenfeld. It's basically a 3-day full-body workout, with 3 days of cardio in between...but if it's done right it gets results. I had to decide on which exercises to select because I don't use a gym...and I thought 'The Great White workout' sounded a nice title for it....and the picture of the Great White goes well with the name of the workout.

The cardio days are based around a person's own ability, so they never need altering really, because it's just a case of altering the intensity as a person gets fitter. But I specifically designed the workout for myself, and it appears to still work even after 5 years, although I may have added more exercises in than when I began...but I keep taking it back to the original plan, mostly because I just like it.

Motivation, that's one of the hardest to pin down. I used to use getting my weight down as motivation, once I got to that I just really enjoyed exercise, so that was good. Now, Ive been intermittent in my exercise, due to lots of study gettibg in the way, so am having to re-motivate myself...so, I decided to take up a sport, and use that as my extra motivational thing...something I've wanted to do for ages,, but just decided to give it a whirl. A picture on the fridge door, or one placed so you can see it as soon as you wake up is good. Some people put their workout clothes next to the bed, so they have no excuse etc... good beaty music is great once you've started working out, and can keep you motivated throughout.

That makes sense But well, Like I said before I am fighting a phase of depression. I am not able to listen to music I love, play badminton which I'd always enjoyed, or even sleep properly. I am afraid I have no close friends with whom I can share this with too. This site is a gr8 inspiration though

I feel for you nuttyspice. I've been there and we all probably have at some point. Sometimes the depression is a chemical thing that can shift just a little bit if you're able to get some extra B vitamins in you...?
how about some fish oil? that can help quite a bit with mood.

When I'm in a slump it's always because I've let the nutrition slip and then everything else follows.

are you eating enough?
are you sleeping okay? too much?

I always feel awful when I miss a meal or a workout. I get so cranky. It's like I'm addicted to it, if I don't get my fix... LOOK OUT!!

I had depression as a teenager (although in hindsite, I think I suffered the usual post-puberty no-one-understands-me-and-the-whole-world-sucks depression that most teenagers get), although it blossomed into post natal depression after I had my boys. Getting up and doing something was the hardest part, but now that I am moving I just can't stop.

I find I sleep too much when I'm feeling blue, the best thing for me when I'm is to make sure I only get 7-8 hours sleep and get some exercise in, also fresh fruit and veg in all the colours of the rainbow can help?
If your trouble sleeping is the other way round have you tried valerium (sp?) it's natural and helps.
Also have you considered meditation?
All the best, you can pull through this tough time!
