Women’s abs workouts and exercises often fail to mention that adding a twist is a great way to increase the tension on the common crunch. Check it out!
The basic crunch is one of the best motions to build up your midsection and abs. However, there are ways to intensify the crunch and it seems that many women’s fitness site’s and blogs have forgotten to mention that.
Here is how you do the perfect crunch with an added twist:
Many people think that the twisting crunch has to be done in a locked position. That is, each time you should twist and touch your elbow on exactly the same spot and with exactly the same speed. I disagree with this and take a different approach.
One of the best ways to improve your abs is to hit them from all different angle and with a whole lot of different exercises. Today we are looking at the twisting crunch which increases the ‘crunch’ on our abs. We can better this exercise even further by altering where we do the twist. For example, sometimes I will touch my elbow to my knee which doesn’t allow my abs to crunch completely. In the next set I will then try to get my elbow all the way over to the other side of my leg as if I was trying to touch it to the ground. This increases the tension quite a lot.
One of the best tips for the twisting crunch is that you should never follow the motion and get stuck in it. Each movement and crunch should be a crisp separate motion. You should not be going as fast as you can pumping them out and just PLACING yourself in a twisted position.
Instead, you really should make sure that you make the twist a crunching movement in itself. So, the first part of the movement where you crunch up normally should be very separate in your mind from the next part where you twist to the side. This is a great way to keep your technique on track.
If you want some nice abs then you really do need to remember the basics of abs training.
Conclusion
Abs training really isn’t as hard as the industry makes it out to be. A sexy, flat, toned stomach isn’t that far away as long as you remember the basics and you remember to remember them!
Does anyone have any other tips that they have found particularly helpful for their abs?
