The new book, The Abs Diet for Women, has finally been released and is getting a lot of love over on Amazon. As I run a very popular women’s fitness site I was quite excited to see what happened after this book was released and to see if lived up to the hype. However, I have not had time to read it yet so I can only post some initial thoughts.
I have to express my heartfelt dismay that I was not sent a free copy of the book to review! Usually authors of women’s health and fitness books send me books as a nice little gift so that I can do a glowing review of them (I don’t always). This time I didn’t get anything! I’m only joking. I don’t really care.
The first thing about this book that worried me is the title. And when the title itself worries you that is a bad thing!
I have an aunty who weighs 100 kilograms and is only 45. She eats the worst food, has a really bad job and never has time to exercise. Could she get flat abs in 6 weeks? I doubt it. I know a few women who regularly read Real Women’s Fitness and have some pretty bad joint and muscle injuries. Could they get flat abs in 6 weeks?
One of the things I hate most about the fitnes industry is its reliance on hype and dishonesty to sell crap products. It is actually one of the main reasons I started Real Women’s Fitness and Real Muscle Online so that I could write about REAL fitness and health related issues and bring some quality information to an otherwise rubbished out market place.
Of course, I would have to read the book and experiment with the ideas in it because I could be wrong. It could bring great results very quickly.
The next thing to note is that this book is a reshaping of the earlier best seller and it is now specifically targeted at women. It shows how women need to eat and exercise differently and draws on scientific research to show that.
The next thing that you should take a look at is the author of the book. I do not know anything about David Zinczenko except that he is the editor of the very popular Men’s Health magazine. This magazine is huge all around the world and they have done an amazing job of creating a very loyal following. My dad buys this magazine all the time and reads it on the toilet even though he never exercises and doesn’t care to try.
However, the thing about those type of magazines is that they boast a new amazing workout plan each week. Each issue of the magazine promises to get you ripped abs or huge biceps or weight loss almost overnight. This bothers me. I do not believe their claims and I think it is very unfortunate when people do as it can give them a lot of false hope.
My only concern here is that if David Zinczenko brings some of this magazine type hype into The Abs Dier for Women then maybe it isn’t all it is cracked up to be. But, as I said, I have not read it and cannot say. I have never read anything by David Zinczenko except for some short pieces.
The last thing I wanted to say about my initial impressions of this book is that it promotes fast weight loss. While I am all for losing weight quicker than normal I do not agree that weight loss should happen so fast that you dont know what’s hit you. Diets and workout plans that change your body that rapidly are not healthy and they are not good for your long term health. And, 9 times out of 10 you will see the weight come right back on as soon as you stop.
Conslusion
If anyone has read this book or any others by David Zinczenko drop us a comment and tell us what you think. I will try to get a full review soon.

| Billy said: | I disagree. I think the tips in that book are so fantastic. I will be buying this one for sure! |

| MG said: | You know, it promotes a trim flat stomach and a toned body...not necessarily fast weight loss. In fact, they say not to concentrate on the weight because the gain of muscle may actually keep the scale from going down. The difference is your appearance - you'll lose inches and be in better health. I've read it and am trying it (on week 2 now) and in addition to losing weight, my pants fit, I'm sleeping better and feeling great - and that makes all the difference in the world. |
