The Best Gym Equipment for Womens Workouts Part 3 - the Back

This is PART 3 in our series on the best gym equipment for women’s workouts. In this post we will be looking at the often neglecting back muscles. Which is the best machine for the back?

The best gym equipment for women’s back workouts

As I mentoned already, the back is often a very neglected muscle when it comes to women’s workouts. I think because it is out of sight women often forget how important it is to train those muscles.

However, training the back has many advantages. It helps keep your posture correct as well as supporting other muscles. If you have a strong and healthy back many painful problems can be avoided in later life.

The best part is training the back isn’t that hard. There are many great exercises that one can do. However, the best equipment at the gym for the back is the rower.

The rowing machine

There are two types of rowing machine at the gym.

1. The cardio rower:

2. The weight lifting rower

In this post I am talking about the second rowing machine; the one that allows you to row with a heavy weight.

There are many reasons why this piece of gym equipment is so good. One of the main ones is that it helps you to keep a straight back when you pull the weight as the cable runs down the centre and you have to pull on it while pushing with your feet which creates an excellent balance.

By changing how you pull on the pulley you can target different areas of your back. A low pull will hit your lats while a higher pull with your elbows out will target your inner back or rhomboids. It is a great exercise to strengthen up your back all over.

This is an awesome idea.

What about chin ups and normal rowers? Not as good?
sandie said:Yep! I agree with Bella - the rowing machine rocks. however sometimes I find it hurts my back in a not so good way. I think this is when my posture is bad and i don't use a proper weight for my skill level.

great series keep it up
