A Supernatural Chat with Erin Pavlina

Here is the big interview that I have been so excited about! I hope you all enjoy it.

Introduction to Erin Pavlina and the Interview

Last week I was lucky enough to sit down and have a chat with (read: send an email to) one of the most popular women on the internet - Erin Pavlina.

Erin is a genuine psychic who spends her life helping people. She has a very successful site and Blog where she writes about all things supernatural - spirits, chakras, dreams and so on.

However, the supernatural topic that she writes so well about that I was really interested in was love, compassion and working with the mind. I call these topics supernatural because it seems like we have lost touch with them a little bit and I was hoping Erin could help get some of us back on track.

Helping Women with Erin

If you are a long time reader of RealWomensFitness.com then you would be aware that we have been getting into some deep and slightly more serious topics over the past couple of months. Stories have been popping up from all over about the massive numbers of young women who hate their bodies and have self image problems. Likewise, I recently posted about how ‘weight loss surgery’ was one of the top weight loss related search terms of 2006.

I wanted to investigate these women’s issues and see if I could somehow use RealWomensFitness.com to provide some small help. To do that, I thought, it would be best to sit down and chat to someone who is an expert at helping.

The Interview

Here is the interview with the lovely, patient and very willing to help  Erin Pavlina.

RT from RWF: Erin, thank you so much for taking the time out to do this interview. You have quite a famous reputation in the blogging world but for those of us who don't know you so well could you tell us a little bit about yourself and your Blog?

ERIN: I blog on topics related to spirituality, self-improvement, the paranormal, health, and compassion. My main goal is to help people remember where they came from, because when you remember that, life becomes a lot more meaningful, easier, and fulfilling.

RT from RWF: At Real Women's Fitness we have been looking more and more at ‘why women exercise' and have found that there are some pretty terrible motivations like ‘I hate my body', ‘I am too fat to go out', ‘I want to look like so and so celebrity', etc. - especially in young women. Do you think these motivations are harmful for the individual and do you think it could indicate a deeper emotional problem?

ERIN: Every thought is an intention. Every thought you have sends a message to the universe. Just like making a wish and throwing a penny into a fountain, every thought is a wish. When you say, “I hate my body” the universe says, “your wish is my command” and you will end up with a body you hate. The universe does not distinguish between good wishes and bad wishes. Whatever you think about, you will manifest. If you’re trying to achieve a certain goal, start imagining that you have already achieved that goal. Begin behaving as if you’re already there. The universe will get your message and act to make it real.

RT from RWF: Do you think society, music videos, media, fitness blogs (ha ha) have anything to do with women feeling like they don't measure up physically? Have you encountered any similar issues on your blog?

ERIN: A lot of people seem to give their power away; to the media, to companies selling products, and to others. When you allow other people to tell you who you should be, you are giving away your personal power. You can give up control of your life, but never responsibility. So you’ve got to decide who you are going to be and then be that person. Don’t let anyone tell you that you should be anything other than what you are. You came here with a specific purpose that only you can fulfill. Don’t rob the world of your uniqueness by trying to be someone else or by trying to be what others think you should be.

RT from RWF: Do you have any tips or techniques a woman can use if she doesn't like her appearance or her weight (despite looking perfectly fine)?

ERIN: That’s a hard question for me to answer because I have no experience with that scenario. I think how a person decides to look is entirely up to them and should not be left to a societal norm. Women should feel comfortable within themselves, and then their bodies will reflect that.

RT from RWF: Do the mind and the body have a big influence on each other?

ERIN: Yes. You can think yourself fat and you can think yourself thin. It all starts with becoming a vibrational match for the body you desire. Your body will always follow your mind. So if you don’t have the body you want, start with your mind. Imagine exactly how you want to look and then begin behaving the way that person would behave. Your body will get the message and follow suit.

RT from RWF: I am often asked to write articles about overcoming laziness and developing a lasting motivation to eat well or go to the gym regularly. Do you have any techniques that the readers of RWF might benefit from in this area?

ERIN: to accomplish a goal such as fitness or weight loss, you have to have a strong and compelling reason why. When you have a strong enough why, the how takes care of itself. If you find you’re not getting the results you want, ask yourself why you MUST have those results. If the answer is a little wishy washy, you don’t have a strong enough why and you will fail. Think about a goal in your life that you simply HAD to accomplish. And you probably accomplished it. If you didn’t, the “why” was probably not strong enough.

RT from RWF: I have touched briefly on the subject of chakras and internal energies on RWF but could you explain a little bit about this topic and whether or not diet and fitness affects these subtle energies?

ERIN: Chakras are the energy centers in your body. They represent different areas of your life such as survival, emotions, confidence, compassion and connectedness, communication, intuition, and connection to Source. When these are out of balance it can cause physical and emotional pain or discomfort in the affected area. Working on your spiritual fitness is just as important as working on your physical fitness. Proper diet and exercise can help to energize your chakras. Poor diet and lack of exercise can cause the energy to move sluggishly throughout your body, and you will begin to experience break downs.

RT from RWF: So can the opposite occur? Can having poor chakra health affect your ability to exercise and lose weight?

ERIN: One of the reasons women, especially, gain weight around their midsection is due to the build up of other people’s energies in their second and third chakras. The second chakra has to do with emotions, while the third has to do with confidence and personal power. Women tend to do for others before they will do for themselves. They carry the emotional burdens of their family and friends, and especially their children. This build up of energy manifests as weight gain in the mid-section, where these two chakras are located. One way to spiritually correct the weight gain is to release all the energy that is not really yours. Release the emotional burdens, the guilt, the worry, that you collect from other people throughout the day. Simply doing a chakra cleanse can help in this capacity. Refer to my article on chakras for a method of accomplishing balance.

RT from RWF: I understand you and your husband Steve are vegans. What are some of the health benefits of eating vegan for the skeptics out there?

ERIN: The China Study is a great book that explains the benefits of a whole foods vegan diet. The personal benefits I have experienced include: weight loss, cessation of chronic digestive issues, clearer skin, looking years younger, and milder illnesses. From a compassion standpoint, my view is that if I can live healthfully and well without eating an animal then I must in good conscience do so. I simply imagine how I would feel if I was a cow, pig, chicken, etc. and wonder if I would rather live out my life in peace or be painfully slaughtered. Since I would choose the former I, as a human, would feel hypocritical to take the life of an animal.

RT from RWF: Erin, I am a Buddhist and you are a psychic - we are a little off the norm! Do you have any tips for people out there who might be trying to do something a little different in their lives and are getting resistance from friends, relatives, etc.?

ERIN: It can take family and friends years to update their file on you. If you know what you’re doing is right and in alignment with your own true north, then ignore your friends and family until they catch up. Who knows you better? Yourself or your friends? You owe it to yourself to follow your own path through life. Remember, you are ultimately responsible for your outcome. If friends and family don’t understand, that’s their problem, not yours.

RT from RWF: Okay Erin, final question. What are your top three tips you could leave with my readers that will help them with their mind, body and developing a lasting happiness?

ERIN: You are perfect. You are loved. Nothing can truly harm you unless you give it permission.

RT from RWF: Erin Pavlina, thank you very much!

ERIN: Thank you for the opportunity to share my piece of the puzzle. I hope it adds to your understanding of the bigger picture.
