Do you help others with fitness and weight loss?

I have been noticing a disturbing trend lately to do with how little people seems to want to help others with their fitness and weight loss goals. Do you help others or do you ignore them?

It seems that when someone gets a good piece of information or advice they hoard it for themselves when they know that a lot of other people could benefit from it. I’ll give you an example. I was recently at the gym with a friend of mine and someone who was new to the gym came up and asked her for some advice. Now my friend is pretty fit. She is lean, slightly muscular and very much looks the part at the gym. The person asking for the advice, on the other hand, was a bit over weight and obviously new to the whole fitness and weight loss game.

Now I thought my friend would help this woman in a flash but instead she gave her a tip that I knew to be wrong and I knew SHE knew it was wrong. My mouth literally dropped open. I could not believe that anyone, let alone one of my friends, would be so selfish as to not help another human being. It simply appalled me.

Ever since then I have been noticing similar behaviour at the gym until it occurred to me that people who work out are often vain and selfish people who are so self obsessed with their own image they forget to take a real look in the mirror.

I would just like to open up the comments and ask whether anyone else has noticed this type of thing at the gym? Do you share your secrets and knowledge with others or are you in competition with them?

Kek said:God, really? I can't imagine such a weird attitude. I'm happy to share my knowledge with anyone who'll stand still long enough. I post on fitness forums, talk to people at the gym, answer any questions directed my way and generally make a pest of myself. ;)

I learned long ago that the rewards of reciprocation are many and well worth the effort it takes.

mimi said:wow, that's sad! i just found this site and the first thing i did was send links to some of the articles to my friend, who just started working out. i even went to the gym with her to make sure she had good form and told her the parts she was working out with the different exercises. i guess some people just like to keep information to themselves. this is a great site, by the way!
