Omron Digital Pedometer - the coolest way to measure your exercise!

Measure your cardio and daily exercise with the Omron Digital Pedometer

A regular reader recently wrote in and told me about how cool they thought the Omron Digital Pedometer was. I checked it out and it turns out that for about $20 you can pick up this awesome little tool - I love it!

Get this - you dont’ have to put it on your belt. Just whack it in your bag or purse and it will measure your walking!

What does the Omron Pedometer do?

This pedometer is a tiny little device that you carry with you when you go out or when you go to do some exercise.

It measures:

- Steps
It tells you how many steps you have taken during the day or while you have been exercising. This is useful because you can keep a record and try to do more each time you go out.

- Distance
It will also tells you have far you have walked or run during the day. Again, keep track and try to beat your previous score.

- Calories
Now this is the cool part! The Omron Pedometer also tells you how many calories you have burned. This is an awesome tool for women who are trying to lose weight and want to learn how much movement they have to do to burn a certain amount of calories. If you carry the pedometer around in your bag you can check to see if you have earned that lunch time treat!

- 7 Day History
The Omron will also keep track of how much you have done over the past week. This allows you to keep track of your daily exercise and see if you are doing less of more.

Why I love the Omron Pedometer

The reason I think everyone should own one of these things is because it makes measuring the amount of weight loss exercise you are doing really easy. People often get frustrated at their lack of results when the start out exercising and quite often this can be because they aren’t doing as much as they think.

I always tell my clients to write down exactly what exercise they do each day but it is often quite hard to measure what you have done. For example, if you go for a run around the park you will take stops, do some stairs, have a drink, etc. and after a while the amount of time (minutes) you have spent out there becomes irrelevant. It would be much more accurate and helpful to know how many steps you have taken or how many calories you have burned.

You can pick up the Omron Digital Pedometer from Amazon here for under $20. A worthwhile investment.

Mardee said:I love this pedometer - I've had mine for about 6 months and it's fantastic! It's the most accurate pedometer I've ever had, and I never have to worry about losing it due to the security clip. It's also nice to sometimes just attach it to my purse or stick it in my pocket if I don't want the extra bulk at my waist. I highly recommend this.
Stephen said:Does anyone know how it tracks distance, I find that really cool. I almost want to get one can just carry it with me to know the distance between things. Finally the walk between the kitchen and couch and be quantified and counted as exercise. Okay, I don't know what I'm thinking.
RT said:Stephen - That is a darn good question! Because, I can see how it measures steps but that wouldn't be an accurate measurement of distance because everyones steps could be different.

I'd love to know how they do this! Anyone....
Bryan said:Stephen & RT. With the pedometers I have used before you have to calibrate them to the length of your stride. One method I have heard of doing this is to put the bottom of your shoes in water and then walk across concrete. Then measure the distance between the wet footprints. I prefer to walk a known distance (100 meters) and then adjust the stride length up and down until I get the correct measurement showing.
RT said:Bryan - of course! It seems so simple now. Have you used this particular pedometer?
