Top 10 Most Superficial Exercise Motivations

Time for some fun with the top 10 most superficial reasons to go to the gym and exercise! Sometimes all you need is a weak motivation to keep your long term goals on track.

10 - Feel good after the workout

The feeling of coming home after a nice long run or a good weights session really is amazing. You feel like you have done something helpful and productive and you feel healthy.

9 - Avoiding study

When I was in the middle of exams I used the gym as an excuse to get away from the books and do something. I said to myself “It’s for your health” when what I reall meant to say was “I don’t feel like studying!”.

8 - To get into a new dress

If you have found a shirt or dress that you really loved but they didn’t have your size but you bought it anyway then this one will hit home with you. I know plenty of women who are at the gym because there is a nice dress waiting for them once they have dropped a few pounds.

7 - To talk to that hot guy/girl

I know HEAPS of people who are at the gym for the sole reason of talking to the hot guy/girl who they know will be there. Some people I know won’t even go to the gym unless its at a time they know that special person will be there.

6 - So you can reward yourself with junk

It is quite common that people bribe themselves by agreeing that they can have their fast food if they go to the gym for an hour. This is a really short term motivation but I have done it on more than one occasion! Very silly.

5 - So you can look good for a specific event

I know this one is some people’s entire motivation for working out but I still am putting it here because it is just so short term! However, if you want to look good for a formal, prom or something like that then I don’t have a problem with it at all.

4 - So you can look better than your friends

This one is definately silly! Some people have been known to work out so they look better or are fitter than their friends. To me this is a very superficial motivation.

3 - So you can lift a heavy weight

This is probably more of a man’s problem but some people work out so that they can lift a heavy weight or perform some show of strength that other people cannot do.

2 - To look good for summer

This is the most popular hook in all of women’s fitness advertising - look great for summer. My question is - why can’t you look great all year round?! Aim to have an all year round healthy balance.

And the number one most superficial motivation for going to the gym is…

1 - So you can sleep with that guy/girl

I think if you did a survey of why people are at the gym most people would say it is so they can get a sexy body so they can score more! Is this why you are at the gym?

I’d love to hear some more reasons! It can be as rude or as silly as you like.
