Are you sick of the same old gym and the same old workouts? Sick of getting up early for your fitness program start? If so, try some of these “beating fitness boredom” solutions!
Fitness Boredom
Everyone gets bored with fitness once in a while. Even people like me who absolutely crave sport of one form or another. Sometimes you just couldn’t be bothered. So, if you are having a bit of trouble getting motivated to work out lately, try some of my favourite tricks.
# 1 Do something else!
If you are bored of running on the treadmill, do something else.
If you are bored of going at a low intencity pace, try high intensity cardio. If you are bored of doing five sets of medium reps for each muscle group, try doing 5 sets of 4 reps with a really heavy weight. If you are bored of walking, try jumping. Bored of boxing, try kicking.
Get my point? Most of the time I reignite my love of fitness by changing the activity.
#2 Fitness with a friend
You may have noticed that I talk about doing fitness with a friend quite regularly. Well, I really think it has some great advantages.
While training with a friend might not make you really love your fitness program again, it may just be the thing you need to get back into the gym and start doing something. It is much easier to get moving if you have someone with you.
# 3 Shift your fitness focus
This may sound similar to number one but it has a bit more of a long term approach. If you find you are bored with training for weight loss then perhaps you could switch your focus to getting super fit in a period of lets say two or three weeks.
So, for three weeks you forget about calories and heart rates and just work on getting really healthy and super fit.
The great thing about fitness related issues is that most of the time achieving one goal means achieving a few goals. If you get fit and healthy you will most likely lose some weight too.
# 4 Join a team sport
Team sports aren’t for everyone but they really do have some excellent advantages.
There really is no feeling like winning a premiership or taking home the number one place. The last few weeks of a soccer season always had me on edge, really feeling electric. I found it so much easier to get up at 5am and go for a run or hit the gym because I really REALLY wanted to win the title.
If you have an exernal motivation to do something that isnt related specifically to training itself it can sometimes be an amazing kick start.
# 5 Remember your goals
I think when we forget what our intention or purpose is we lose sight of the prize. Getting healthy means living longer, avoiding diseases and looking good. This really should be the ultimate kick start for fitness training.
Sometimes we also feel bored when we lose track of perspective and time. Perhaps if you are bored it is a good idea to look back at your goals and your success timeline and see if you are on track.
Does anyone else have some good tips for beating fitness boredom?
