Weight loss strategies you'll wish you knew earlier

I have been experimenting on myself and my clients with some new weight loss strategies recently and have been having some amazing results. So, if your bored or stuck on your current weight, try some of these weight loss strategies today!

Extreme Weight Loss

Over at RMO I have been posting a series on fast and extreme weight loss that was recieved very well by some people eager to do some hard training. This series has hinted at my latest weight loss strategy which is centred around getting a little bit more intense.

However, before trying one of these extreme weight loss strategies:

Background to these weight loss strategies

As you probably know by now I am an advocate of short, intense and to the point training sessions. I don’t like spending hours at the gym or on the running track at a medium pace. I have got the best weight loss results, muscle gain results and fitness results when I keep my sessions short, hard and very intense.

The weight loss strategies that I am posting about are centerd a little bit around this idea. It is helping people to get their weight loss or gym sessions more intense and more focussed.

Extreme Weight Loss Day

My first idea that I used on myself and suggested to some of my friends is to select one day of the week to perform your hard core, extreme and very intense cardio or weights session. Now, this works best with weight loss exercises like sprinting, cycling, etc. but can work excellently with weights, circuits, etc.

So, start off with an exercise you have done before. Let’s say it is running. On your extreme day you will go to a hill or a park and instead of doing one hour of light jogging you will do 20 minutes (warm up time excluded) of intense sprinting or hill sprinting.

20 minutes seems easy on paper but I am willing to bet that people who are used to long distance running will not be able to complete the session. Start with your warm up (light jogs, stretches and a few squats) and then pick out your track. On this first session you are allowed to have one minute rest for every four minutes of exercise. As you get fitter and more accustomed to this type of training you will increase the amount and the velocity of your training and decrease rest time.

As you get better you will increase the sessions per week you do.

Go hard

The next strategy is to switch your motivation on this day from “I will run for one hour solid” to “I will run my guts out at every moment of this session”. You want to alter your mind-set from trying to do weight loss cardio for a certain amount of time to a motivation that is concerned only with giving it 100% at each moment.

In my experience this makes for a much more productive and effective weight loss session. Your metabolism will be fired up all day and you will find weight loss much easier.

I also think this has had success in that it switches your mind away from worrying about whether you are losing fat to just concentrating on the workout. Sometimes relaxing our goals is better than tightening our mind on them.

Extreme Weight Loss Twist

One of the other things I challenge my clients to do is to put an extreme twist on their regular boring old weight loss workouts.

For example, if you like to ride your bike for your weight loss cardio try keeping it only in the hardest gear and picking a circular track that has one big hill on it. Or, if you like walking, go to a hill and take a heavy back pack with you and walk up and down the hill.

Can anyone think of any extreme weight loss twists that could be put on some other exercises?
