The gym has only recently become a place that women feel comfortable. A few years ago if you went to a gym you would see testosterone filled men pumping iron and not much else. However, in this post I will explain why women are better at fitness than men. Perhaps soon we will see mostly women at the gym!
Women are used to taking care of themselves
An interesting fact I became aware of recently was that women have been brought up to look after themselves much more so than males.
Many women spend quite some time each day taking care of their appearance by using hair products and devices, moisturizers, creams, make-up and then put on beautiful outfits that they spent a long time picking out. Women have waxes and shave their legs… the list goes on.
Now, of course, not all women do this but my point is that women are so used to looking after their appearance that once they get into fitness and health they find it much easier to be diligent and develop useful habits.
Women are patient
Something I have noticed at the gym and with my female friends is that it takes women a lot longer to get results with their weight loss or muscle toning programs than it does with men.
Due to the way the male body has evolved, working out and putting on muscle is much easier. There are hormones (testosterone) that make is many times easier for males to gain muscle and lose weight.
However, the female body has evolved with maternal responsibilities and such women put on weight much easier and find it more difficult to shed. And, because of this, women are more patient and thus will not give up on a program or workout as easily as a man.
Many women are mothers
Now I am aware that I am making some huge generalizations in this post but for the most part they are accurate. That is especially true for this one.
Raising a child and doing all the motherly things involved with raising a child takes guts! There is no other job in the world (except a few) that involves as much stress, worry, energy, time and hard work as being a mother.
By the very virtue of having raised a child a woman will work harder at their fitness because they are not afraid of a little hard work. One trainer at my gym remarked to me recently that his most energetic, keen and productive clients are middle aged women who are just getting back into their fitness.
Excited about women’s fitness
The list could go on but my point is that I am excited about this new Blog as I feel there is lots to talk about in regards to women’s fitness and getting some real results.
When you match the above factors with some excellent information one is bound to make some even better progress! I hope you are all as excited about this as I am!
