Womens Weight Loss Tone up Talk & Discuss

All you need to know about Cellulite

Cellulite seems to be a touchy issue for some women so I wanted to write a comprehensive post on all the facts and fictions that you should be aware of as a cellulite hater. I’m going to really get stuck into you and your cellulite here!

What EXACTLY is cellulite

I bet we all have a general visual idea of what cellulite looks like, but do you actually know what it is? I think having a better understanding of the cause and make up of cellulite will help you understand whether cosmetic remedies actually work.

Cellulite is where the external skin becomes bumpy due to the subcutaneous fat protrucing upwards. It is not harmful or unhealthy but it seems to cause women a great deal of anxiety due to the mindset of it being unfashionable.

Who gets cellulite?

If you are reading this you might feel like this paragraph is pretty pointless because you know who has got it - you! That is if you searched for this topic and found this article.

However, it is very important to know that almost every woman will have some form of cellulite in her life. It may be a lot or a little but it is very common. Statisitics often say that between 90% and 95% of all women will get cellulite. Asian and African women are much less likely to have it though - it seems to be a caucasian dominated gene!

Lastly, men rarely get cellulite. Almost none. This would indicate (to me anyway!) that there is a relationship between cellulite and some aspect of the female body, perhaps hormones or genetics.

If everyone gets it, why do we hate it?

This is the question that I have been stewing over for hours. I have been sitting here and thinking “If almost every single woman will get cellulite in her life then why are they all so sure it is ugly and bad?”. It is an interesting point.

Ask yourself:

“Do I hate my brown hair?”

“Do I hate my white teeth?”

“Do I hate my breasts?”

Well, every woman has these things too so why do we hate cellulite? The only answer I could come up with is that we see it as an imperfection related to something that is seen as normal. That is we see cellulite as something that has gone wrong with an otherwise beautiful form like yellow teeth or bloodshot eyes.

But this is wrong!

Then I thought about this view some more and I realised that it is completely false. It is okay to not like yellow teeth because it indicates that they are unhealthy or the person is lazy at brushing them. It is okay to not like bloodshot eyes because it means the eyes aren’t healthy… and so on. But, why do we dislike cellulite? It in no way indicates being unhealthy. Hmm…

Don’t only fat people get cellulite?

No. Plain and simple. Almost every female who has gone through puberty will have some form of cellulite whether they are 100 kilograms or a track and field star.

So, we can no longer associate cellulite with being fat and therefore unhealthy. So why keep hating it?

How can I get rid of cellulite?

Ah the million dollar question! If I had a 100% certain answer for this do you think I would be writing this post? No. I would be flying on my personal jet to my personal island to swim in a pool filled with gold coins! I would be rich.

The fact of the matter is there is no magical remedy for cellulite. There is nothing you can do that will get rid of it today unless you can afford to go and get surgery and have the fat sucked away. The creams and potions you see advertised on television all the time are often expensive and a waste of time.

Have you ever seen a cream that you can rub on your abs and it gets rid of the fat? No. It’s not different for cellulite.

However, there are some things you can do to reduce the effects of cellulite and make it either less visable. Firstly, you should be exercising everyday with both weights and cardio. It is proven that losing weight off of your whole body will help reduce cellulite as it too is a fat. This is not a 100% guarantee though as even very skinny women can have cellulite on their body.

One should also be on a strict healthy diet which will assist in losing weight while at the same time keeping the body healthy and well.

Laser therapy for cellulite

Some people say that laser treatment works but until this has been proven by science I am not really interested in writing about it.

What else can I do?

I have read in a few places that stress and poor diet may be a cause or a stimulant for cellulite. It can make matters worse for those who already have cellulite or potentially cause it to show up in those who haven’t. Again, though, this has not been supported by scientific studies so I would not take it too seriously. But, reducing stress and improving your diet can only help!

The most important thing you can do is learn to love yourself! You are beautiful. You are amazing. If a little bit of cellulite gets you down then you need to take a look at in the mirror and then take a look at your mind and realize how wonderful you truly are.

Likewise, if a partner or boyfriend doesn’t like your cellulite then he/she isn’t worth the hassle. A real partner will look at your qualities and focus on them and praise them. You don’t need to be surrounded by people pointing out negativities.
