Health Benefits of Tea

For a long time I have wanted to write about the health benefits of tea. In particular, I am really quite obsessed with Chinese Green Tea. I think this popular drink has more to offer than is currently understood.

Green Tea preventing cancer in China
Coming from a Kung Fu background I have had a lot of interaction with old Chinese people. Most of them rave on about the health benefits and qualties of Green Tea like it is a cure for cancer. And, recent studies have shown that, although perhaps not a cure, Green Tea does go a long way to preventing cancer.

“…the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. University of Purdue researchers recently concluded that a compound in green tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells. There is also research indicating that drinking green tea lowers total cholesterol levels, as well as improving the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol.”

More Chinese related Green Tea benefits
Other than having an effect on preventing diseases by reducing toxins and free radicals, the Chinese believe that Green Tea has an extremely positive effect on the internal energy system.

Chinese martial arts, acupuncture, etc. are all based on an internal energy that flows through subtle veins called “nadis”. Tea is thought to help unblock any energy flows and thus increase health, immune system response and a whole host of other problems. After a kung fu session it was not uncommon to see the Chinese guys sitting around drinking Green Tea instead of sports drinks.

Green Tea and Relaxation
Another obvious benefit is that it helps you to relax. And, as I have stated before, I honestly believe there is a connection between the mind and the body. If your mind is in a positive state then I believe that your body will be more likely to be healthy.

This may sound a little corny but again there are documented studies that support these opinions. We all know that stress can lead to constipation, migranes and other bodily problems so why cant the opposite frame of mind lead to positive bodily experiences?

Keep it natural
One problem with drinking tea is that people feel the need to add sugar and other things to it when it is perfectly nice by itself. In order to maximize the health benefits of this drink I hope you will try drinking it fresh and without any additives.
