Womens Weight Loss Tone up Talk & Discuss

CSIRO Diet - The Total Wellbeing Diet

Recently here in Australia there has been massive media attention directed at the CSIRO’s (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) new diet book. The book, entitled The Total Wellbeing Diet, went to the top of the best sellers in Australia in a matter of days. Now, edition two has been released.

The Total Wellbeing Diet
The first diet book really was quite good. It was very similar to Real Women’s Fitness.com’s attitude towards diet and weight loss in that it takes a long term approach basing the weight loss more on health than on anything else. Some of the regular meals cooked by my girlfriend and I are recipes from this book.

The Total Wellbeing Diet book had a firm stance on the portions that one should eat and emphasized a high protein, low fat type of diet. Many people got healthy and lost a lot of weight because of this book.

Controversy!
A few months into the book’s life a news group came out with information that the CSIRO’s research and publishing of the Total Wellbeing Diet book had been funded by an Australian Meat organization. The diet had a very high meat intake compared to many other conservative government reccomended diets and thus many people assumed the book had been swayed by the funding body.

However, having used the book myself I saw no real problem. Yes, meat intake was high compared to normal ‘modern’ standards but that is the way a real healthy diet should be. It was by no means excessive. The advocacy of fruit and vegetables as well as natural foods made the book, in my opinion, one of the better on the market. Some people, though, disagree with this viewpoint sternly.

CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet Book 2
The latest edition hasn’t had as much media attention as the first. Many people are assuming that this book is a re-hash of the first but with less of an emphasis on red meat so as to remove themselves from the accusations.

I am yet to read Book 2 but would be very interested to hear a review or some opinions about it. Likewise, if anyone else knows of any other books that may have been compromised by funding or something similar please drop a comment.

Final Review
Overall I think this book is a must have for people looking for a more balanced way to eat and lose weight. It is a much healthier approach than diets like the Atkins Diet and will be sustainable for the long term. Well worth the money.
