How to eat healthy at work

Do you snack all day while sitting at the computer? Does your diet suffer because of a busy work day? If so, read on…

Work Diets
I have noticed that the times I put on extra weight are the times when I am stressed or really busy. And, usually, those times are when I am at work. The work day and corporate pressure really doesnt allow for excellent diet or weight loss goals. So, here are some tips to stay healthy at work.

Plan, Plan, Plan
Planning is the key to success at a weight loss program. If you plan your whole work day then you will find it much easier to fit in a good meal. Planning has three main sections:

Planning for your work day means to set goals for all the work you have each day and try to get it done by a certain time so that you can have a good meal. So, instead of sitting around and chatting at the water cooler or making 10 stops to the toilet to play a game on your phone (yes I do that!) try to work hard and stop only when planned.

Planning your meals means to pre-cook or pre make lunches that are adherent to your weight loss or health goals. Salads, chicken salads, fruit salads, etc. are good ideas.

Planning for chaos means to realize that you will be busier on somedays than others. Also, some days you may get invited out for junk food with important clients or work mates which you cannot afford to turn down. Thats fine. Plan for it.

Lose the coffee
As I always say, drinking coffee is a bad habit. And, like most bad habits, it leads to other bad habits.

If you are a bit of a problem snacker then coffee should be cut out asap. Snacking is made much worse by coffee drinking and its associated chatting, cravings, etc. Switch to green tea.

Let work mates know your on a weight loss kick
There is nothing wrong with telling your buddies and those you eat with everyday that you are trying to get healthy or lose a few pounds. They will understand and (after a while) they will stop trying to pressure you into KFC, local eateries, etc.

However, dont go telling everyone you are trying to lose weight. We all know the person at work who tells you how much weight they lost this week, how they did it, what they ate, what cardio they did… no one cares!

Eat nuts
Nuts and other similar things like organic dried fruits are great for work because you can snack on them without adding on kilos and mega calories. They are full of vitamins and essential fatty acids as well as being easy to carry around.

Try making a mix of dried fruits, seeds, nuts, etc. and leaving some in your work drawer.

Does anyone have any other tips?
