Pizza is good for you!

The news that we have all been waiting here - pizza is good for you! It is a healthy choice according to recent press release (here) and brought to my attention by good old diet blog.com. The problem is though - this is a lie!

Pizza being good for you is a joke!

I am a little bit disappointed that this came out in the form of news but I am not at all surprised. I would like to know more about the source of this information and/or research as it specifically says that Domino’s Pizza is a good one to have. Sounds like bought publicity to me.

Over at The Diet Blog they talk about the main points of the article:

* Pizza is essentially a meal in itself, as you can find foods from the four basic food groups in one slice.
* A crunchy thin crust Domino’s pizza contains less than half the carbohydrates of Domino’s classic hand-tossed pizza.
* None of the core products on Domino’s menu (pizza, bread side items, chicken) contain trans fats.
* Customers seeking a healthier pizza have the option of ordering their pizza with a lighter portion of cheese.
* The tomatoes in pizza sauce contain lycopene, which helps protect against prostate cancer. Tomatoes are also an excellent source of vitamins A and C.

I really don’t think I need to go through and point out all the flaws in this statement. As the Diet Blog crew have pointed out and their readers commented on; the statement is a load of rubbish!

Pizza is high in salt and fats and is generally bad for you in almost every way with the exception of a few vegetables chucked on top.

My main reason for posting this information is that I feel it is important for my readers to be able to recognize a bad bit of information when it pops up. Not everything that is written down is true and most often when a big corporation gets involved with the research or the funding the information is going to be way off.

What do you think about this?
