I was looking at some top searches recently and weight loss surgery came up as one of the most popular weight loss searches on the internet. This really disturbed me.
I was quite shocked that this many people would consider weight los surgery so much that they have begun researching it on the internet. As soon as I saw the statistic I came straight here to write this post and ask whether my readers would be or are interested in the idea of having surgery to lose a bit of weight.
To be honest I do have a problem with weight loss surgery for the average person. But, I have to qualify my statement by saying that there are exceptional cases where it is probably a good idea for a person to have the surgery. For example, if someone is overly obese due to a genetic condition or a health problem and needs to lose weight so that they can avoid other complications. I’m sure there are more valid reasons.
However, I feel like cosmetic surgery is becoming a bit of a fashion statement these days and perfectly beautiful women are going under the knife because they have the money and they feel like it is a good idea.

I heard recently that Jessica Simpson had plastic surgery on her nose and I was obviously very stunned. Here we have one of the most beautiful women on the planet getting surgery on a nose that had nothing wrong with it at all. It struck me as being a very sad scenario.
You can see the before and afters of Jessica’s surgery here.
The reason I don’t agree with perfectly good looking people getting useless surgery is because I feel like it is a manifestation of some underlying problem or pain. People these days will look to the external world to make them happy when what they really need to be doing is looking at their own mind. It is the mind that makes one happy, not the outside world. You can have breast implants, face lifts… whatever you can think of but as soon as that is done you will find something else to be unhappy with.
There is a great old Buddhist saying that says:
“If someone gave you the whole world tomorrow within a week you would want another one.”
I think this is true of the surgery. One really needs to work on their own perception of themselves as opposed to trying to change our appearance. It really isn’t that important and it is a bad lesson for the young women out there who have problems with self hate and other similar disorders.
Well, after a bit of thought I decided that it might be a good idea to ask a women’s mental health expert to come and write a few articles here at Real Women’s Fitness. I get quite a few visitors here and it might be able to help a few young women with their struggles and fears.
However, if anyone else has some other ideas about ways we could help women or people in generally using this website or any of my others then by all means let me know!
Finally, I’d love each any every person who reads this post to take 20 seconds and leave a comment about whether or not you would take weight loss surgery if someone else would pay for it tomorrow. If yes - why. If no - why not.

I don't think nutritionists and trainers address the psychological motivations that drive people to lose weight in a positive way. a majority of people desiring to lose weight suffer from self esteem issues and need advice on more than just diet and fitness, hope websites like yours will act as a platform in spreading the message. |
