Weight loss programs often take a beating over Christmas time. If you have been working on weight loss all year then make sure you don’t muck it up over Christmas by following these tips and bits of advice.
Christmas Day around my family often involves getting up to open present, having a nice breakfast and then heading off to my grandparents house for a huge family lunch. Then I have to shoot off early to get to a lunch at my partners parents house and then on the way home we have to stop off at a brother or a sisters house for a dinner that I really don’t feel like!
And its not just Christmas day either. All over Christmas time people seem to get the cooking bug and invite everyone over for a big feast. If you are trying to lose a bit of weight then you could get yourself into a bit of trouble.

Christmas is a time to be enjoyed so don’t worry about weight loss too much. There isn’t that much that can go wrong as long as you are sure you can go back to your healthy diet as soon as the festive days are over.
However, if you really are worried about putting on a few pounds over Christmas then follow these tips.
1 - Turkey is ok
Eating a bit of Turkey won’t put on any weight. It is high in protein and low in fat. However, try to avoid the toppings and cranberry sauces that get piled on top of the poultry. This is full of sugar.
2 - Try Seafood
Many women don’t eat enough seafood and thus miss out on many essential fatty acids. In Australia (where I am) it is always a hot 40 degree summers day at Christmas time so many families opt for seafood instead of the traditional Turkey. This is great for weight loss too so perhaps some other countries could give it a go this year?
3 - Don’t forget your cardio
A lot of people think because it is Christmas Day they can sit on the couch all day and play with their presents. However, I would reccomend getting out for at least a light jog or a walk. If you take a walk after all the day’s eating has finished you will be able to burn some of the calories that would be burned as fat if you didn’t go for a walk.
4 - Water
Keep your water intake at an all time high! The problem with Christmas food isn’t that it is always bad for you and fattening, it is that we eat too much - tempted by all the glorious cooking. However, if you keep your water levels up you will squash some of that apetite and stay feeling full without eating too much.
5 - Why so much bread?!
I dont know about everyone else, but I never have bread with dinner. At Christmas time though, at the family feasts, whoever is hosting the event always seems to put half a loaf of bread on your plate as if you would die if you didn’t get some. Bread if full of sugar and carbs which you don’t need when you are eating lots of fatty foods. Get rid of it.
6 - Feel like cooking?
If you don’t want to ruin your weight loss progress perhaps try hosting the event this year. That way you can cook what you want and keep it clean and healthy. Cooking for everyone in your family might not be worth the trouble now that I think about it!
What other tips can everyone else think of for Christmas weight loss?
