When a couple decides that they should move in together, it’s a very big step emotionally (and more often than not, physically). Moving in together brings a lot of compromises on sleeping schedules, television programs to be watched, the colors of sheets, etc. One thing though is certain – a man will tend to lose weight after first moving in with their significant other, while the female will gain.
Why is this?
It all goes back to compromise. Studies have shown that after moving in together, one of the first things that they change is their eating patterns. Both want to show an effort to please each other. This means while the man is trying new foods such as yogurt, skim milk, and granola bars, the woman is eating buckets full of peanuts, hot dogs, and tortilla chips with nacho cheese. While this may a little of an exaggeration, men do tend to eat more fruits and vegetables after moving in with their girlfriend or wife, while women’s diet adds more meat and heavier meals.
Aside from the obvious dietary differences between a man and a woman, the beginning stages of a cohabitation relationship are always very stressful. Stress causes an individual to eat more, and with the new unhealthy eating choices brought into the relationship by the man – it’s hard to resist that bag of cheetos when you’re sad or upset.
While most women lose weight after moving in with their boyfriend or husband, you don’t have to be one of them. If you feel comfortable, set down ground rules with your significant other. Tell them that you care about your health and don’t want unhealthy foods in the house. If your man doesn’t agree to this, you simply need to keep buying healthy foods and stay away from the junk.
After all, you shouldn’t blame somebody else for your weight loss.
