I bet that title grabs your attention. And I bet you want to know how to lose 7.5 pounds of fat in a week. In this post I will look at how to lose that much weight and a little hidden secret about that weight loss.
Winter was not kind to me. I ate too much cereal, toasted breads and other delicious warm things and as such I put on a little bit of fat. Not too much but enough that I noticed. So when I looked in the mirror and realized I had gained a few pounds I went on a fanatical weight loss workout program. I was going to lose fat big time!
My goal was simple. I wanted to lose as much weight as possible in the shortest amount of time. Sound like anyone you know? I bet it does. I get tonnes of emails from women who want to lose weight quickly. I’m sure you will identify with my goals.
So how did I lose 7.5 pounds of fat in a week?
It doesn’t matter.
Why?
Because the weight came back.
Although many of you are going to accuse me of being mean for grabbing your attention with a big promise like that and then dashing your hopes I think it is all worth it if you learn this lesson.
Losing weight should not be done as quickly as possible. It is not a sustainable method of weight loss that will last for many months and years. You see, as soon as I lost my 7.5 pounds of fat I stopped training as hard, stopped eating as well and the weight came back.
Most of the weight loss was water, not fat.
And that is what happens when you go on crazy diet and exercise schemes. You lose a lot of water. Or, if you are lucky enough to lose fat you will find most of the time that the fat will come back because you simply cannot sustain your current levels of discipline.
Think about it. If you cut out all your bad foods at once and start running every single day for an hour do you think you will be able to keep it up for the long term? No. And as soon as you stop the weight will come back.
The best way to lose weight is slowly and with the long term in mind. It is better for your health and it is more sustainable. 1-3 pounds per week is a good number. It is do-able and it is sustainable.
The idea is to get healthy, not to get skinny. You will lose weight and look a million bucks if you are healthy. This is what we should be aiming for. This is a basic principle of Real Women’s Fitness that I just wanted to remind you all of.
P.S. - I lost the weight running hills everyday. ![]()
| Libertate said: | So what happened? You just stopped running the hill, and it all came back? And you didn't change any of your caloric intake at all? I think a lot of people miss the point that as one looses weight, one must also decrease the calories - and not just because they want to loose more weight by caloric restriction. Simply put - the body needs less calories as it gets smaller. If you have adjusted your caloric intake, I bet your weight would have stayed. :D |

Definitely a title that grabbed my attention. :) I agree though, the only way I've been able to sucessfully lose weight has been by doing it slowly through exercise and eating a healthy diet. Sometimes it's hard to be patient while you lose the 1-3 pounds per week... but it's definitely worth it in the end! |
| RT said: | Ashley - slow and steady wins the fat loss race - I agree 100% with you. RT |
| Sonia said: | Doing a weight watchers diet, does that exact thing! You start out on your points for your weight, what exercise you do etc, each time you reach a new weight loss in stones you drop a point, that meaning you drop calories and that is why the weight loss is consistant, because the more weight you lose the less calories you eat. |
