Setting Weight Loss Goals

Whether it’s to feel better, look better, have more energy, or just overall be healthier – weight loss and healthy weight management relies on goals and expectations that are reasonable. The more sensible the goals you have for your weight loss, the better chances you have of losing and keep that weight off.

Most people that are overweight should lose the weight gradually. For safe weight loss, don’t exceed more than two pounds a week. If you need to lose weight drastically (such as having serious health problems related to obesity), a physicians supervision is required.

Your weight and your current lifestyle are the result of these following factors:

  1. How much and what kind of foods you eat
  2. Amount of routine physical activity
  3. Whether you eat food in response to stress or other emotional triggers
  4. Genetics
  5. Age and well-being

Your weight loss should address all of the above factors, which is part of the reason you need to avoid products and services that offer quick and easy results. Everybody has heard the infomercial or radio advertisements, “Lose 10 pounds in 3 days” or some other nonsense. These ads are simply selling fantasy and false hope and misleading you. There’s a simple concept to lose weight – you must burn more calories you take in during the day, which requires you to eat healthy and be physical every day.

There are two kinds of approaches one can take to lose weight. One option is to go on a diet – such as the Atkins, Low-Carb, Jenny Craig, etc. The other option is not to diet, but to simply maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating foods that are low in and fat and by working out on a daily basis. You can do this by doing the following:

Finally, losing weight isn’t some miracle science. It’s not a fad, either. It’s the end result of your hard work and common sense – eating foods that are healthy, drinking water, and living an active and healthy lifestyle that involves getting outside and enjoying our body’s wonderful abilities.
